Big Feet

Post by Big Boy »

I've been thinking about my long awaited retirement to Thailand today (as most other days). My mind moved to things that I need, but will not be able to obtain in Thailand.

As my name suggests, I am larger than the average Thai or Farang or both put together. I know I can have many clothes made in Thailand - and do so on a regular basis. How will I fare when it comes to something like socks for size 14 feet? I doubt whether there are many Thais with such large feet - they'd look like a circus act if they did; and its not a common size amongst Farangs either.

Is such a commodity available in Thailand, or will I need to import them?

To be honest I don't know if you are able to get socks this size in Hua Hin.
Baybe Bangkok.
But what do you need socks for?
It's not cold here as you know.
If you insist on using socks, then it might be a good idea to buy some pairs in England as you say.
They do sell socks in the Grand market and many more places, (universal size), but your size; I doubt.

Anyway big boy; welcome back to HH and I hope you'll have a great time here.
I intend to live forever - so far so good.

Norseman,

Thanks for your help. Certainly the universal size that I've seen thus far will go nowhere near my feet.
:thumb:

I don't wear them to keep warm, I wear them to keep the mossies away in the evenings - they tend to find my feet and ankles irresistable.

I'm not back in Thailand yet :( , just dreaming of my next trip, and contemplating my retirement.

I don't have size 14 feet, but I struggle to get underwear, shorts and t shirts to fit my western girth. I am planning my retirement so on every trip I take a supply of new socks etc on the way out and some beer Chang on the return trip.

Seems like a good idea to me :D

Underwear was going to be my next question.

Regarding shorts, there are plenty of places I can get those made.

Tee Shirts haven't been a problem to me. There are plenty available from XL through to XXXXXXL. There used to be a shop across from the Subhamitra Hotel on Amnuvasin Road that specialised in large t shirts.

Failing that, there's a Night Market stall, which is there all day as well, on Petch Kasem Road, between Amnuvasin Road and the Night Market that always has a fair selection of outsize t shirts.

I had my suspicions - didn't remember seeing it there the last time I was Hua Hin. That's why I mentioned the Night Market stall.

There was also a good selection of outsize T Shirts in the Hua Hin Plaza last I was there as well.

Try buying a shirt or a pair of pants. Sleeves are generally too short as are the pants. :D TiT. Best to bring stuff with you & get friends or relatives that visit to bring you clothing & food parcels, yes food... cheese is expensive & the selection is generally poor. Oh, and bacon... :D

As far as under shorts anywhere, good luck. L is really an M, XL is really an L, and that's the largest I've ever seen in any shop or store in Pattaya. Perhaps places like Robinsons, Emporium, Paragon in Bangkok have oversize undies but not here. Of course if you get shorts made to size, you could get boxers made also. Maybe Lev could offer a line of HHAD loin cloths? :P Pete
