Vital Spark wrote:In theory it'd be lovely to be able to go to an F1 Grand Prix here in Thailand, in practice it would be a total disaster.

1) They'd need to ship in marshals from the UK, at huge cost, just to guarantee the safety of the drivers.
...I don't know who marshals for the Singapore, Malasyia, China and Korean GPs but it'd probably be cheaper to ship them in from over there?
2) All the best viewing seats would be taken up by VIP's.
As opposed to any other Grand Prix?
3) The track surface would have the minimum amount of tarmac because the high-grade stuff would be used to make a nice drive-way for a local politician's house.
Clearly that would not happen. But I'd be all up for a race with poor tarmac. Anybody remember Montreal 2010?! :D
4) It wouldn't start on time.
Jeez. Yes it would.
5) They'd be so many boring speeches to open the event that the drivers would doze off.
I don't think the drivers have to listen to the speeches.

I'm not particulalry in favour of the race. If I want to make a 'weekend' of going to a race there are pleny of places a short plane ride away to visit. But I don't think any of your arguments are valid. If the race does not get put on the calander then it will be due to failed negotiations in the first place. If it goes ahead; the event will be fine.

Incidentaly, Christian Horner was in Hua Hin last Thursday, doing some Red Bull promotion in association with Singha.

Hi Pleng,

I think that VS comments were a little tongue in cheek, not 100% serious :thumb:

I was going to ride down for the race but had some people coming to look at the house so had to cancel. I'm glad I did. For me they have to decide on a couple of things for next year. The race is run at the wrong time of the year as there is a very good chance it is going to p@ss down at some time during the weekend. Secondly they run it late in the afternoon to cater for the European TV viewers. It only takes the race to be delayed for a bit like last weekend and they are then in danger of running out of daylight. Most proper F1 fans back home will either get up early / stay up late to watch it live or simply watch the re run at a more convenient time.
Well done to Perez who drove a blinder and it looks like with Schumy back in a decent car and Kimi driving a good car as well things should really hot up this season.
Will have to look at Singapore weekend now.
I never forget a face but in your case I'll make an exception!

See BB's post below Richard as a way to see what people have picked. You can see picks at anytime after you have made yours. Pete

As mentioned some posts back, the year will be interesting if we have multiple winners in the early going. We have that for sure.

Parahandy had the best race with 9 points. Close to getting into double digits which is a goal for all of us this year. Not surprising that no one picked Rosberg for pole position, nor to win.

JJ Bones shot up 2 positions and now leads the standings, followed by RZR, Pitsch and Terry. Vital Spark gets the prize for advancing the most positions this race, 3.

Next up this coming weekend is the Desert Classic in Bahrain. Lets hope it goes well with no political demonstrations or security issues. Good luck to all :thumb: Pete

1 ▲ 2 JJBones 25.75
2 ▼ 1 redzonerocker 25.50
3 ▼ 1 pitsch 24.75
4 - Terry 24.25
5 ▲ 2 Parahandy (yellow cap) 23.25
6 ▼ 1 BigBoy 22.75
7 ▼ 1 Pete 22.25
8 ▲ 3 Vital Spark 21.50
9 ▲ 1 lindosfan 21.25
10 ▼ 2 Richard 20.75
11 ▼ 3 pharvey 19.00
12 - JW 15.75

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Bahrain were cancelled at the last minute. If you see anything, please post. Pete

Well practice is due to start in a few hours. Everybody are within the confines of the paddock so there'll be no more news of f1 personnel until the end of the day at least. I don't personally think it'll be cancelled. But I fear for something happening on Sunday. Even head of security has said that there's no way they can prevent somebody running onto the track. He had a very different tune *before* everybody had arrived!

Vettel is back, at least for this one race, but I have a feeling we'll see more of him. Vital Spark and I picked him to win.

Vital Spark, Terry and I had the best race with 8.3 points. RZR has taken over first place followed by Terry, Pitsch and JJ Bones.

Terry gets the prize for advancing the most positions, 2.

Next up is the Spanish GP in 3 weeks time on May 13. Good luck to all. :thumb: Pete
