Not sure I agree Johnny. It WAS like that one time - Except for Phils place which was sit and have several! I tend to agree with Richard, it could be the beginning of the end for the Binta. Even if JWs' no doubt sound info is correct any new building is going to be higher, plainer, more sterile looking, and eventually the whole Soi will look the same.
I suppose that's 'progress'. People will quickly forget and tourists will love it. Personally I still think Buckskin Joes should have had a preservation order slapped on it so I guess there's just no hope for me! (Or the Binta.)

Yes, the same thing happen to Khaosan Road. Twelve years ago, it was actually quite a nice street to visit. You could sit and have a beer, and see the entire world in just one road. There were all sorts of people (some not so good ones) and the place was appealing in a strange sort of way, but then it started. Slowly but surely the old places were torn down and replaced new yuppy joints. These days it's the in place to be seen if you're a wealthy young Thai, or if you want to get a glimpse of a few Thai TV stars.
In my opinion...................totally crap, and I can't see myself ever going back there again.
In Hua-Hin though, there seems to be a bit of an irony. You see these older places being torn down and replaced with new modern designs, a "upscale" venue opens, and then shuts a few months down the line because they just don't get the customers.
