J: Many belated congrats from us both. Just caught up with this thread as we've been away on a 'duty trip' to the UK.

Late thirties are probably the best years of your life, in my opinion. You've made all the silly mistakes (hopefully) and you've learnt from them, but you're still young enough to have a wild time and not suffer too much the next day.

Not true for everybody in their 30s I can assure you! I suffer from horrific hangovers, sometimes the remnants spill through to the following day if I've been proper bang one it.

My parents never get hangovers no matter how much they drink!

I don't know how old your parents are Pleng, but I find (in my middle age) that if I stick to one kind of drink I'm OK the next day. Someone once told me not to mix grape with grain. Such wise advice, that I sometimes forget. Last week we had a whole day in Bukhara (Uzbekistan) before catching the overnight train to Tashkent. Had one or two Uzbek beers before cracking open a bottle of Champagnski in our private sleeper cabin (thank goodness it was private!). Lost one of my socks, apparently burbled a load of nonsense and felt dreadful the next day. I put it down to the rockety-rockety motion of the train...

Whiskey on beer, never fear
Beer on whiskey, very risky

Wine then beer, feeling queer
Beer then wine, you'll be fine

Don't believe a word of it, mind!

As far as hangovers go, there's just no telling. Sometimes I can have but a few beers and still be hammered for it the next day. Sometimes I can sink into the Whiskey and still have a reasonable tomorrow. Although in both cases those are exceptions, rather than the rule!
