Euro 2012

Post by caller »

(not to be confused with Petes game thread)

Well, Roy has announced his England squad, here -

England squad for Euro 2012:

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Man City), Rob Green (West Ham), John Ruddy (Norwich)

Defenders: Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Man United), John Terry (Chelsea), Joleon Lescott (Man City), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Leighton Baines (Everton)

Midfielders: Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Stewart Downing (Liverpool), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Gareth Barry (Man City), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Scott Parker (Tottenham), Ashley Young (Man United), James Milner (Man City)

Forwards: Wayne Rooney (Man United), Danny Welbeck (Man United), Andy Carroll (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham)

Standby players: Jack Butland (Birmingham City), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea).

The only real surprise for me is the inclusion of Downing and the omission of Micah Richards.

Be interesting to see how we do?

Took the words from under me there Caller. How the hell did that happen?

But you never know do you. Maybe he plays a blinding 'few' games and suddenly he's England's darling. The tide can shift so quickly on the International stage.

Agreed, Downings done nothing to warrant a place apart from having a left foot. I'd have also taken Richards over the laughably overrated Jones.

I particularly enjoyed the Hodge explaining how he was impressed with Chamberlains performance against the likes of Ambrosini and Pirlo of AC Milan. Shame Ambrosini didn't play and Pirlo, Eeeerrrm, plays for Juventus.

Come on... your winding us up surely Baa Baa.

Give me a link to that and I will no longer be able to give any sort of credit to the guy unfortunately. A professional commands such wages because they know what there talking about. If true it seems a bit like our ref that gave the same player 3 yellow cards over the duration of a big international game... retired soon after quite rightly.

Pirlo had already moved to Juventus and Ambrosini wasn't even in the squad.

Are we allowed to talk about other teams here as well? Even if they have foreign managers? :D

Sure thing, I'd rather we had a foreign manager.

Splendid, I'll be back after Finland have been kicked out of ice-hockey world championships. Could be tomorrow. :banghead:

"You don't have to use short passes," the new England manager could be heard shouting at one point. "Not if you want to use your big man up front."

"no more than five passes at the back- then bang it up to the big man"

But if Carrol's on fire that may just work! We are technically inferior to some of the other countries, so I'm game with that if it get's us the win. All depends on the pass, the movement and the finishing.

That's true. Shame Beckham isn't still about when you think of Carroll.

Technically England's fullbacks are as good as any though and most modern systems use them to provide width.

You're right there. If we can get a little bit of both into our game then... who knows.

Edit: A good manager should be able to identify what's going to work with the opposition on the day after around 25 minutes. Teams have their good and bad games as you know. Can Roy do that .... time will tell.

On a side note Baa Baa, (I'm touching wood here now), if Roy was to bring us home a trophy... would you change your disliking of him or is that stuff set in stone.
