I worked out which extras I wanted, and caught a Tuk Tuk down to the showroom. Well, I know TIT, but what a comedy of errors!

Arrived just after 1 (opening times for the showroom are stated as 9 til 6). Explained that I'd ordered a car last week, and now wanted to order some extras. The guy looked puzzled. My wife tried to explain, and showed him a few pictures of what I wanted. Sorry, don't do extras for a Ranger. I explained that their website showed many extras for the Ranger. Still a no.

Then I saw a 6' high cardboard cut out in the centre of the showroom advertising Ranger extras. Ahh! I don't deal with the Ranger, I'll have to call the Ranger salesman in from home.

30 minutes later, the salesman turns up. I go through what I want. I get to the nudge bar - sorry, there is no nudge bar. But it's on your website (and in the 'Extras' brochure that had been produced). No, there is no nudge bar! Why? No answer.

OK, can you tell me the difference between a basic bedliner, and the bedliner with the bedrail cover? You don't want a bedrail cover. OK, but what's the difference - can you show me? He takes me out the back and shows me a Ranger with a black bit of plastic in the back. I asked, is this with or without the bedrail cover? No sensible answer came back, but he assured me that was what I was getting. On the way back into the showroom, I pointed out that the publicity photo, showed a little bit less. Ah yes, that's what you're getting. OK, can I have the bedrail cover as well? No, they don't do them. But why is it in their brochure and on the website? No answer.

A couple of minutes later, I noticed the test drive vehicle had exactly what I wanted - I pointed it out, and now the story changed again. Yes, that's what you'll get.

After about an hour of heartache, the deal was done. I told my wife to call a Tuk Tuk. No need, the salesman told us to go and sit in the back for a couple of minutes, and he would drop us home. Result at last! Something is going right. Over an hour later (hastened 3 times by my wife) he admitted that he couldn't drop us back. Tuk Tuk is called.

I'm now seriously wondering what a bunch of clowns I've committed my money with. They don't know what their product is, and certainly couldn't organise a p*ss up in a brewery. It'll be interesting to see how long 2 months really is. Is it simply a clever marketing ploy, undercutting the lead time on every other similar vehicle by 1 month to get the trade?

Based on today's experience, I would suggest anybody else considering a Ford Ranger proceed with caution. I will advise on the actual timescale when my beast arrives.

WTF, that sounds like something out of a horror show BB and that's with a Thai wife along for support, Christ only knows what those of us without the benefit of a Thai wife/GF would have to go through...........

Have to admire your patience Big Boy, but I think that you may be your own worst enemy!
If it was me I would have been demanding to speak with the organ grinder dealer principle, not the monkey, long before it came time to wait for a Tuk Tuk!

That was the problem, there was a tea lady/cleaner, the salesman and a couple of cashiers. The tea lady did provide me with a cup of coffee

I think it was some sort of public holiday for Ford workers - certainly nobody in command. My previous visit saw the place crawling with people of all grades.

Just going by the photos it would appear that the "bed rail cover" extends up and over the top edge of the tub, as compared to the "liner" that is only inside the tub. There may also be a difference in the type of material used, the extended item being a bit stronger.

A couple things to mention here. If you look at older trucks on most you'll see the paint scuffed on the bed rails. That's because you'll find yourself lifting things into and out of the truck over the sides rather than using the tailgate. Many bed liners already come with a top lip that fits over the rails. I assume Ford's doesn't per their photos but it's something to check. (maybe why the sales guy said you don't need the rail cover?) There are also many outside companies that make and supply bed liners for all models of trucks. If something goes bad with your Ford deal on the liner, should be easy for you to source elsewhere, maybe with the rail lip already present.

When bed liners are installed they need to remove the tie down cleats in the bed. In most cases they cannot be reinstalled because of the nature of the liner. They couldn't be in my past two trucks. I didn't worry about it though as I had a sport bar in each and used that to lash things to when needed. Be sure to get the cleats Ford removes as they're yours, you paid for them, and you may find a use later if you see fit to remove the liner, or get a different style where cleats can be attached. Never easy BB. Pete

Which ever bed liner that is used may also depend on whether or not you are going to add a canopy, and therefore the difference with the bed rails.
For me these 4 door body styles are made a lot more useful with the addition of a canopy.
If it is a factory liner then why is it that the tie downs are no longer used?
