It's not over until the rotund warbler weighs in though.......

Can I have a rant please Bob?Pleng wrote:Well that's pretty much what the race of champions is...Big Boy wrote:In that stadium, there just isn't going to be any serious racing - more like a publicity stunt.
Yes - the RoC is a publicity stunt, just like the borefest called the Monaco Grand Prix. I have just sat through two hours of utter, mindless boredom, watching cars that were totally ill-suited for the job 'racing' (term used extremely loosely) through the dubious, tight and twisty streets of a seaside town obsessed with beautiful people and swimming pools. Is this really the pinacle of motor racing? No - it's a complete waste of money and time. If you wish to continue to race down these dark alleys, give each team two go-karts, probably pedal driven, and see if you can tell the difference. The whole thing would be not unlike staging a race through the nice new wet/day market in Hua Hin. Pointless.
(Rant not quite finished yet.)
What really annoys me, though, is that I watch the damned thing every year, just hoping upon hope that something might happen. I have done so for many years. I remember when in the late 60s Jack Brabham crashed out of the lead on the last corner by conveniently driving into a TV camera. I also remember the time when Prost won it in the pouring rain, but only just because there was some young whipper-snapper called Senna in a thing called a Toleman catching him at three or so seconds per lap. Prost managed, through hand signals, to get the race stopped because it was raining too hard... Great. I have been watching this thing for more than forty years, and I continue so to do. Am I an idiot? Please don't answer that question. I remember two races out of forty + .
(We're getting there, but we're not quite there yet...)
What really makes my blood boil, not unlike that of Mr. Angry from Purley, is that the powers that be are trying to persuade Spa to share a Grand Prix with France. I have nothing against either of those countries or circuits, but the idea of continuing with this boring, dangerous, social event down in the South of France (which, like it or not, is exactly where Monte Carlo is) on an annual basis while suggesting that one of the greatest circuits in existence, if not the greatest ever, should share a bi-annual event with somewhere else in France is just horrific. What is up with these people? Is it all money and kudos, or does the art of motor racing enter into it anywhere, not to mention the fans - the people who pay in the end?
(End of rant.)
Please forgive me if I have upset anybody during this rant, or indeed any of their animals or pets, but I really wanted to get this off my chest. Since I am certain that Bernie is an avid follower of HHAD, I felt that this would be the best platform to use to persuade him to change his mind and hear the people (me) speak.
And that's another thing, as my first wife used to say. I'm only fourth in the standings at the moment. Just not good enough...
Have a fine day -

Mr.P - I am sure that he is indeed an avid follower of our very knowledgable forum, but did anyone ever tell you that besides being a dwarf, Bernie is quite deaf? Especially if your suggestion does not make MONEY.Parahandy wrote:.................. Which is of course what this annual feast of the eyeballs is all about

The racing is secondary
Bet you watch it next year tho'

Re: 2012 F1 Pool
Huh? There definitely has been French Grand Prix in the past. I can't remember when the last one was, but don't think it was that long ago. You probably don't remember them because they were generally extremely boringprcscct wrote:I could look this up probably but will ask anyway. Looking at the schedule and remembering past years, I can not remember France ever having an FI event. Seems strange to me given that every EU country surrounding them has. French cars are prominent, if you can still call Renault a French company. Perhaps there is some underlying reason? Pete

Re: 2012 F1 Pool
Thanks to Pitsch as well for the link a few posts above. To be honest I was a very casual follower of F1 before our pools started. I'll never be rabid about it, but now at least know more than I ever did. PetePleng wrote:Huh? There definitely has been French Grand Prix in the past. Coolest rant of the season..up to now!

Re: 2012 F1 Pool
I think a new pool is needed or betting book as to is going to drive for who next season. There is already talk about Hamilton going to Red Bull despite Maclaren upping his measly salary to 90 million per annum

Re: 2012 F1 Pool
Why does it take so long for Superbru to decide on who has the fastest Pit Stop?
I see that this week that dubious honour went to Mercedes - and none of us bunch of bozo's picked them anyway.
Yes - nice rant Mr.P and as JW said - cool............
Anyway, Canada should be a lot more of an interesting race - sadly though, the eye candy won't be

Re: 2012 F1 Pool
Well I need to get it in in just about every place I frequent so I can say 'I said it first' in the unlikely event of it actually happening, but there's a small gut feeling I have that Hamilton could end up at Lotus partnering Kimi next year.richard wrote:I think a new pool is needed or betting book as to is going to drive for who next season. Jarno Trulli, Lotus, Montreal, 2011Conditions for the first day of practice at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve may remind drivers of the heavy rain during last year’s F1 race.
The 2011 Grand Prix was stopped for two hours as a downpour fell on the Montreal track.
A low-pressure weather system lying to the south-east of Montreal is producing cool conditions in the area at the moment. Thunderstorms are expected on Friday afternoon which could coincide with the second practice session at 2pm.
Lighter rain is forecast on Saturday, which could make for an interesting qualifying session. But conditions for the race are expected to be much better.
Expect to see more sunshine and higher temperatures on Sunday, rising from around 20 to 25C.
Keep an eye on developments in the forecast with the weather radar links and local forecasts below. The first shows a three-hour precipitation forecast and is worth checking before the start of each session.
And as usual we’ll provide more weather updates throughout the sessions on F1 Fanatic Live.
