The Secret Of M150

Post by Big Boy »

We've got the extended family staying with us this week, and a trip to Cha-Am was arranged. So off we go, me carrying my bucket & spade only to find out that we're visiting other members of the extended family who have a roadside cafe on the outskirts of Cha-Am.

It was quite a busy little place, and I was sat in full view of the kitchen area. Not being able to eat or drink much, I was looking around, and I soon noticed a trend of lorry drivers arriving and depositing their empty bottle of M150 in the kitchen area. The bottle was always served again with their food.

This intrigued me, so I watched the process more closely. The lid would be taken off the M150 bottle, and a bottle of white Thai whiskey would be produced from under the workbench, and the bottle refilled.

The worst of it was that many of these drivers were long distancing from Malaysia to somewhere else in Thailand with their fully laden 40 foot trailers or a couple of piggy-backed trailers. TIT.

[Edit] The next time you're travelling on a blue bus, or in a mini bus doing breakneck speeds and the driver reaches for his bottle of M150 to wake himself up .......................... just wonder what is contained within.

Check again BB, you’ll find it’s not whiskey at all but more than likely a type of liquid amphetamine their selling. I’ve been on the way down here in a BKK taxi and seen the same thing. When I asked the driver what it was, he openly admitted that it was a type of speed. I must admit he didn’t drive that bad, I was a bit worried though as it was dark and he didn’t take his sun glasses off!

No, I checked it out with my brother-in-law, who confirmed it was Laos Khow (Sp?).

I've seen the locals in my partners village buying Thai whiskey in used M150 bottles but there I think it's more just a convenient container as no one cares much if they're farming drunk or not, apart from their wives!

So BB do you think your brother in law would tell you that he was selling narcotics? M150 bottles are to swigs and gone, how far would they get before a re-fill was needed?

It's Lao Khao...

Little shops sell it in 10 baht shots, 30 baht M150 bottles (The Thai name for that size bottle is something like 'bek') and of course the bottles.

Probably not. There are plenty of roadside cafes to top up at though.

Apologies for my spelling mistake (note to self: must try harder). The fact it has a name something like 'bek' seems to substantiate my original observation.

TBH I'm not really sure of how you should spell it... that was just my best guess! :)
