Well, they're certainly not all run by asians! On saying that, the one in the village where I live is, it doubles as a takeaway curry house. The Curry house side of things is good, the chippy side is okay - just above average in the grand scheme of things, but even though I'm only 60 miles from London, they have no idea what rock salmon is and whatever half and half is doesn't exist down here.
London is a foodie heaven, even in the burbs and I do miss the range of stuff available. There is a great butchers in the village, but to survive they have diversified, they have a great sandwich/hot food brekky and lunchtime take away and sell fresh fish once a week (you can place orders). I was in there one time and one of the 2 guys that run it was trying to explain to a customer about the qualities of huss, which they had as fillets, bar the spine. He mentioned Rock and chips and London and that set me off! Anyway the customer wasn't convinced, so I bought a piece and shallow fried it - took me back to my mums cooking!
