To summarise the sarcy comments made by others, and assuming you're not a Thai national (or asking on behalf of a Thai national), there is pretty much no part time work in Hua Hin. If you're thinking of casual bar work, fast food work, anything like that then forget it as these jobs are reserved for Thai nationals only.

You need to have a 'skill' that is on the permitted list for foreigners. Teaching English is a possibility but please don't do that just to make some cash - there's enough half arsed foreign teachers around Thailand already!

Additionally part time probably wouldn't be worth it. Regardless of how much you earn, as a foreigner you have to pay tax as if you were earning 40,000bt per month.

As far as I know you pay tax on your actual salary. A general misunderstanding is that a foreigner's salary should be at least 50,000 (for USA, Australia, Europe and less for Asians and Africans). The salary can be anything but in order to qualify for a 1-year extension of stay Immigration (not Labour Department) wants to see a minimum 50,000 salary. This is why many teachers and dive instructors still have to do a 3-monthly visa run although they have a work permit. Also income tax is not so bad. 7% of 50,000 so 3,500/month. Not sure if this percentage is lower when salary is lower.

No, you don't have to do three month anythings. The school will sort that out for you - yearly. If you have no work permit and are working illegally, sure, you will have to do three month visa runs.

No, it works like this:
As long as income tax is paid over 50,000 nobody cares what actual salary the teacher receives. Proof of the income tax payments is enough to qualify for the 1-year extension. A win-win for the teacher and for the school.

I worked for less than 50,000 for a fair few years but never had to do 3 month runs of any sort? Still now there are people at my school that are on less than 50k... do they do visa runs - NO! Reason.... they have a work permit.

Please educate me...

I can't really think how you could have worded this post in a way more likely to get an irritated response, but I'll try and live with it.

You fail to take in all the variables on this one which is surprising from yourself. Teaching jobs here are generally looking for guys between 25-40. Like a footballer , you are gonna command as much as you can in your 'prime' years before you have to take a hit as you get older.

Unlike yourself, and many other older teachers I'm sure, I don't and will not have any sort of pension ( or supplement of any sort) too add to my monthly income from England when I hit that magic number. Hence I won't work for less.

Having a work permit has nothing to do with it.
Like I said before the school pays income tax over 50,000 (salary on paper, but not really paid out) OR this being Thailand they may have some sort of 'agreement' with Immigration.
