Word of advice: better not say that during a job interview.RoyVer wrote:Just need a visa.
There is no such thing as a work visa. You need a visa to STAY in Thailand legally and you need a work permit to WORK in Thailand legally. Visas are obtained abroad at a Thai embassy or consulate whereas work permits are issued by the Labour Department. This is in theory how it works:
1. You find a job.
2. Your future employer applies for a work permit at the Labour Department.
3. Your employer gives you a WP3 form (the application for the work permit) and a letter that he intends to employ you together with kilos of mysterious paperwork (every single page has to be signed by the employer; forget one and chances are you can start all over)
4. You go to a Thai consulate abroad and apply for a non-immigrant B (business) visa based on the paperwork.
5. You return to Thailand and now that you have the proper visa your employer can continue with the work permit procedure.
6. You will have to jump through several hoops (obtain official proof of your address, a medical examination is needed etc.).
7. You cannot start work legally before the work permit is issued although many employers (in their own interest) might tell otherwise.
Good luck. Keep us posted.
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.

If you just need a visa, how about learning Thai. One of the forum sponsors can fill you in on the details when he gets back. 2 classes of 2 hours per week. Fun, useful, and gets you a visa.

Well you're unlikely to find the kind of job you're looking for, so ED Visa for sure. The school take care of all the paperwork for you anyway.RoyVer wrote:Which one is easier to get, work visa or ED visa?

Is there an agency in town which brokers jobs for foreigners?
Somewhere with a physical location I can drop by some day to chat a bit about working in Thailand and Hua Hin in particular, preferably some entity with a local network within the industries.

Ok. If teaching English is my only legal option, then I will consider teaching English : ) So, to get started, is there a place in Hua Hin I can go to? Should I approach a school directly or is there a middle man somewhere, perhaps an office which deals with these sorts of matters?

Roy.
Google stickman english teaching. He has his own website on Thai nightlife among other things and was an English teacher for some years. He wrote a fairly lengthy article on the do's and don't's and the pitfalls.

Ok.
I was hoping for a tip for something local rather than a website. Perhaps a local business with a well informed owner or manager.
Or a link directly to a Hua Hin based website with more local info.

HH is a small place, I doubt very much such things exist. A falang employment agency wouldn't last more than two weeks. Best to come and walk around, you may have some luck.RoyVer wrote:Ok.
