"A curry a day keeps the doc away" .....perhaps

Post by Spitfire »

Seems that curcumin, found extensively in tumeric, is a great anti-cancer agent along with certain other values of curry in general.

If you are familiar with Thai curries then the yellow curry would be a good example of this as it that ingredient that gives it it's yellow colour. Although it seems that all curries are good on this front to some extent.

Worth a read for those interested and food health buffs.................http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-17959521

Have read many good reports on Turmeric. It is easy to get the fresh root here, dry it, put it through your coffee grinder, then eat by the tablespon (then grimace). Or save the trouble and buy bags of 'Khamin' from the markets. Sometimes more is not better but IMO most herbal supplement dosages are too conservative.

A couple of facts here are troubling...

'Around 90% of patients with solid cancers, such as breast, prostate, lung and colon, that spread - metastatic disease - develop resistance to chemotherapy.'

'The protein fuels cancer cells to grow and invade surrounding tissue - and to resist chemotherapy.'

Anything that might prevent this is worth trying. Just hope they don't design the study to fail.

I have lost count of the many times I have burnt myself in the kitchen.

Any burn I've had that causes the skin to blister or rupture and I use turmeric powder, applied directly onto the skin. It works for me by relieving the pain of the burn, it tends to heal the wound quicker and also leaves little or no scarring.

Yes, apparently is does have anti-cancer properties. The Thais also mix the power with water to form a past, and then use it as a deep cleanse facial mask.

BTW, it's supper easy to grow in the garden, but it's seasonal, so only grows during the rainy season. Once the rain stops, the plants die, leaving just the roots behind, and when the next rain season arrives, they all start growing again.

I sometimes make my own prik gaeng (spelling), but I include plenty of turmeric, whereas the Thai version doesn't contain any turmeric, unless it's made by someone from the south of the country.

Turmeric, along with garlic and red wine are all supposed to be good for our health. So lets eat lots of yellow curry (my personal favourite) with a glass of red - for health reasons !!! Result.

Yikes T. I really wouldn't want to put it on my face! It stains like hell, including skin, and I'd end up looking like I'd got jaundice.

I do, however, drink it from time to time as a kind of colon cleanser. I put a teaspoon in a small glass and top up with water. A couple of gulps and it's gone, and it doesn't taste that bad. It's great for a dull stomach ache. Just don't spill it on your clothes - it's a devil to remove the stain.

Maybe you just don't see the staining because of their skin color. I know my MIL uses it frequently, sometimes as a mask, and sometimes just as scrub.

Maybe more than one variety.
Regular turmeric can temporarily stain the skin. Kasturi turmeric (curcuma aromatica) is non-staining and has the same properties for clearing acne, inhibiting facial hair growth and brightening the complexion. It is not edible and therefore not used for cooking and should only be used externally.

I take a spoonful each morning - perhaps I should increase the dose if you look at the following ;-
