Re: London Olympics 2012
Don't suppose there'll be anywhere in town showing the closing ceremony on Sunday night/Monday morning.......but if anyone can prove me wrong l'll be happy

Re: London Olympics 2012
I like most sports, but there are some which I find hard to watch, mainly I suppose because I don`t really understand what`s going on.
Taikwondo and Greco/Roman wrestling = little boys fighting in the playground
Handball = chucking a ball around in the same playground
Sailing = total confusion, coming 9th but finishing first, boats all over the place, sometimes waiting for hours after the race to find out who really won.
Fencing, the Three Musketeers was never this boring.

I too find some obscure sports hard to watch and understand.
I find if just one sport is watched and studied it becomes clearer.
I for this Olympic games I have chosen to study the ladies beach volleyball.

Don`t start, there`s another week to go before the abuse can begin.

Re: London Olympics 2012
I use to sail and fence when I was much younger and they're both participation sports rather than spectator. Sailing is highly tactical and watching it on TV doesn't tell you enough about what the wind is doing in different parts of the course so you can't really appreciate what is happening.Arcadian wrote:I like most sports, but there are some which I find hard to watch, mainly I suppose because I don`t really understand what`s going on.

Fencing has a whole series of complex moves which again aren't appreciated by anyone who hasn't tried it and I'll admit it's fun to do but not to watch on TV.
A lot of these sports probably have more participants than spectators in any event apart from the Olympics, so it's good for them to get a moment in the spotlight.

Sailing and fencing? Isn`t that what Bluebeard and his crew used to do?

Re: London Olympics 2012
Meanwhile more medals for the UK and a brave and unlucky silver for Thailand in the boxing! Poor officiating in his fight, but he maybe didn't do enough, very untidy fight.
Talk is cheap
Re: London Olympics 2012
I watched the fight. It was very close imo, nowhere near the 13-10 scoreline given. It could have gone either way by the slenderest of margins......poor officiating again,I'm afraid.
We're all on our uppers,we're all going skint,

Re: London Olympics 2012
As a sports fan, from playing to watching to enthusing my kids, I think the UK has put on a fantastic Olympics despite the MAOists (miserable anti-olympics) negative attitude from when it was awarded to London to the final competition. Well done to all the organizers, competitors and volunteers. You all did us proud.
Re: London Olympics 2012
Best in my lifetime, dunno if I've got a bit more behind it because it's at home, because GB have kicked ass, or that I've been swept away with the whole thing.Arcadian wrote:As a sports fan, from playing to watching to enthusing my kids, I think the UK has put on a fantastic Olympics despite the MAOists (miserable anti-olympics) negative attitude from when it was awarded to London to the final competition. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole occasion, including sports I would'nt normally be into, especially Mo Farah.
Also Bolt and Blake are legends.
As well as Hoy, Wiggins, Ennis.......the list goes on.
