London Olympics 2012
Re: London Olympics 2012
I just gave up watching the closing ceremony, it was all a bit of a mess. I lost interest when George Michael came on. No doubt I will have missed all the best bits.

Olympic closing bash
The closing ceremony has just finished. If you haven't seen it in real time it's well worth trying to catch a repeat - some great music and effects.
Notable performances by Gorge Michael, the Kaiser Chiefs, Jessie J, Annie Lennox, Russell Brand, Brian May, and Eric Idle (I kid you not!) It also featured a Spice Girls re-union with some brilliantly decorated London cabs, and was closed in style by the Who.
Still a lengthy ceremony - but not such a marathon as the opening. Some bizarre bits again, and the beginning was almost a tribute to Brenda Dean - but still worth sitting through IMO if you have a spare 3 hours.
Watch out for Boris trying to dance to the Spice Girls....

Re: London Olympics 2012
I've just got back from a weekend in the UK, visiting family, and I managed to catch two GB golds on a big screen in a pub on Saturday evening and it was a great atmosphere with everyone seeming to be enjoying the whole thing. I was able to watch the start of the closing ceremony but I had to go to bed as I had to drive down to the airport very early this morning to fly back to work.
It seems to me that the whole games has been a considerable success.

Second that. Even from a non-Brit you all have reason to be very proud.STEVE G wrote:......It seems to me that the whole games has been a considerable success.

Re: London Olympics 2012
I agree about the sound and there have been many such comments made and some things just didn't work, I'd put Pet Shop Boys and Madness in that bracket.
At the end of the day, I quite enjoyed it, but not all, but thats a musical taste thing. I was impressed by Jessie J and a few others, but why didn't the Who do Pinball Wizard and what was Russell Brand doing there at all? It was also subtly political with Mr. Lennon lambasting religion on imagine. Disappoined Kate Bush wasn't there.

Re: London Olympics 2012
I recommend anybody who enjoyed the Olympics to watch A Golden Games that was on the BBC last night, it recaps it all with excellent footage, effects and narration like only the BBC can do.
It's done like Planet Earth, Blue Planet etc. Amazing TV.
iPlayer for those that can, if not, try and find it.

An interesting article about a Thai competing in the Paralympics, apparently she turned to sport in desperation to try and make some income for her family:

Interesting little story here about the Thai paralympic team visiting Chelsea to see the facilities at the club. Thailand had a bigger paralympic team than they did able bodied!
