Buying Wine

Post by aragon »

Once again apologies if I'm rehasing things, but I did a search a couldn't find a lot. The question is where is the best (i.e. selection/price) place in HH or environs to buy wine? The wife and I are both partial to the odd glass or 3, but don't much like paying through the nose for frankly mediocre plonk.

Reasonable selection in Villa - but just as anywhere else in Thailand, do not expect it to be inexpensive.

Yes but mostly rather expensive.

However, look out for the big bottles of Australian wine, which I think is bulk shipped and bottled in Thailand. It's sold both in Villa market and the little shop at the front of Market village.

Not exactly your 'first growth', but reasonably priced, and light years better than the American paint stripper that most of the bars and restaurants have in boxes.

Mondo Vino Soi 53 have some great offers until the end of August, and they can also give excellent advice.

You probably know that most exported Australian reds are good so at prices from THB380 to THB530 you may be surprised.

Give them a try before the others because they have much more

Uncle Tom: the boxed 'American' wine sold in most bars is from South Africa...........

The Wine-Shop (think it's connected to the HH Vineyard) at M.V. (near Starbucks) has a good range in there (as it should)..But was pleasantly surprised at how cheap their bottles started at...OK they are not selling the well-known brands we're used to seeing, but after I'd been to a couple of their wine-tasting evenings, chatted to the manager-fellow about prices, then I hope to sell a range of their wares in high-season...Worth checking out.

The Colombard from th elocal vineyard is excellent - not cheap at 660 baht, but really good glass of white. Note they also sell it at BKK in the duty free, but it is 990 baht there.
