First British passport for Thai spouse from the UK Embassy

Morning all.

My wife has just become a Brit national. Due to time constraints and other paperwork required which is with her mother in Thailand, we worry that her passport may not come back in time to travel. As we are palnning to stay for some time, does any one know if its possible to obtain the first UK passport from the UK embassy in BKK..

As far as I understand it, the British Embassy in Bangkok does not issue passports any more. The nearest place is Hong Kong.
