Christmas Dinner in Hua hin

Post by tuppence »

I will be bringing the family to HH over Christmas and New year for the first time. What can we expect in terms of nightlife, celebrations, restrictions, and a good place to eat the turkey and trimmings. Any ideas ??

This 'bringing the family' begs a few questions ? It is obviously not your first time so you know the HH situation - if you want to go 5 star to a hotel or much less this is not unknown to you.

If you elaborate on this someone can help

If you are staying in one of the big hotels/resorts they all do full Christmas Dinners - the likes of the Hilton, Dusit etc. and usually cabarets and suchlike. Otherwise many of the bars, and of course the restaurants have Christmas menus. Problem is they can get booked up well in advance so you may have to take pot luck.
Personally I think a full turkey dinner can be a bit much in the heat, but for expats it's something of a tradition. There will be sprouts, stuffing, puds and all the trimmings though. Also plenty of places do the traditional Scandinavian Christmas Eve meals.
Bars open as usual. It isn't a bank holiday. The Thais do celebrate our New Year and that's when they give gifts.
Expect Christmas Trees and plenty of decorations which are left in place from the Kings' birthday celebrations on December 5th. Be prepared for Jingle Bells blasting out in every store, and be thankful to escape the Salvation Army!

Sounds excellent. Sorry for my vagueness in first post. We will be staying at our house in Orchid Palm, so accommodation is no problem. Heat will aslo be okay as coming from Dubai, where it is 50C right now. Just wanted to know if it would be "Christmassy" which it sounds like it might be. I asume New year is quite an occasion then. Thanks to all who commented and pm'd.

I think I've been in Hua Hin for Christmas for at least the last nine years and have always eaten very well, the last few years at JW's on the 25th but many bars have buffets on the evening of the 24th as well and on New Years Eve, so you won't go hungry!

I know being organized is a good thing, but isn't it a bit early for a Christmas thread in the middle of August?

Maybe we should get the Christmas roast dinner expert Richard on the scene as some of his lprevious Xmas threads have been somewhat classic to say the least........and not in the capacity of being a critic.

Tuppence....I reckon the Palm Bistro will be doing Xmas Dinner. They do an excellent Sunday Roast. Last year Terrace 90 did a Xmas and New Year special, and not forgetting Buffalo Bills. All these venues are family friendly.

Yes it's still early for some - but I've already had to start making cards!

For me though one of the nicest things about HH at Christmas is seeing the poinsettias and marigolds out in the flower beds along the roads. The whole Christmas thing is starting too early now - but that goes for anywhere. In HH it used to be very low key but commercialism rules, and sadly maybe the only reason for that is the increasing numbers of expats.

If you would rather have it at home I believe Hua Hin Ham and Bacon (sponsor), will cook up whatever you want. Turkeys for sure.

The Dusit does an excellent Xmas buffet at around a thousand a head. We've been for the last 3 years and have never been disappointed. An amazing buffet including all the roasts, stuffing, mini xmas puds, chocolate fountain plus thai food etc etc etc. You can get your money back on the cheeseboard alone!! You do need to book early though.

What would Hua Hin do without Dave at Ham and Bacon - I think he cooks around 400 Turkeys, mammoth task! He is everyone's Christmas hero!

Hotel Christmas lunch buffet in Hua Hin

Post by ken.p »

Hello all, as this will be my first Christmas in Hua Hin, and not really knowing what to expect. Hotels I should imagine do a Christmas lunch or buffet. Anywhere other?
Also do I need to make a reservation well in advance?

Regards Ken.
