As if enough people weren't about to top themselves and innocent others over a cottage pie, I'll throw another spanner in.
Beans - dump those horrible carrots out and replace them with Baked Beans, preferably in a layer below the potato so the juice runs through the meat.

I'm afraid I have either beans OR (fried) tomatoes - not bold enough to go for both at the same...
