Nearest Sky Train or Metro Station Please

Post by Big Boy »

I have to find an address in Bangkok on Monday. I'll be travelling to Bangkok by train. Can one of you 'Bangkok Experts' advise me of the nearest Sky Train or Metro station to this address please?

56 / 3 Vibhawadee Rangsit Road, Dindaeng BKK 10400

If there isn't a convenient station, please say also. I will have to find an alternate way of getting there.

I guess the nearest underground would be "Sutthisan". Not sure which side of Vibhawadee Rd that address is located, and you have to travel some distance to be able to U turn if on the wrong side.
For the BTS I have used "Aree / Ari", and then get a taxi into Suttisan, which can turn either direction into Vibhawadee. If you can find out with Google just where the address is it would help a bit.

Taken from Google Maps - spelling of road name slightly different, but I assume is the same place!

[EDIT] If not BB, have a search through Google Maps if you know roughly where it is....

Assume you're going here: http://yp.qincai.net/corp-442970.html

Pharvey's map has both an MRT and a BTS station off to the left. Maybe best to head to one of those and get a taxi from there. Pete

Yes, that is the correct road. But, that hotel is north of the Suttisan intersection, and as that is a divided road along there, you will have to travel from another direction to get there. It seems that the address given is near the start of Vibhavadi Hwy, and just looking at a map you could get there from either Praram 9 MRT, or Victory monument BTS. What the map does not show you is where you can turn into that section of Highway. In any case you will need to use a taxi, and then decide how you are going to get back after your appointment.

There are plenty of maps that show a general location, but to find one that is clear just which way is best is a different matter. Google maps have direction arrows on them, but in a lot of instances the elevated expressway confuses the issue, or covers up the direction arrows.

As I presume that you will have a Thai speaker with you, the best thing to do is call the shop and ask them once you arrive at Hua Lamphong station.

Thanks for all of your help guys. To a complete Bangkok ignoramus like me, this information is invaluable.

Yes, that is our destination Pete.

For some reason, I hadn't thought of using Google Maps. Now that I have, the map in front of me, the address seems to be centrally located between Saphan Khwai BTS, Ari BTS, Suttisan MRT and Huai Klawaing MRT. Suttisan MRT looks to be the closest.

I don't see Praram 9 MRT or Victory Monument BTS on the map. Are they closer than the ones I've mentioned above, or am I totally lost  ?

Too right. I wouldn't attempt to go to Bangkok without an escort :D I don't suppose I'd be trusted either

Yes, they are both physically closer to Vibvadhadi, but that does not mean that it is possible to get to where you want to go from them!
Suttisan Rd. is also one of the most congested areas around there, and I always try to avoid it. Many times it is better to travel a bit further than what it may appear on a map. it ALL depends on just where the shop is--ask them!

Thanks Nereus - Mrs BB is at the market at the moment, so I'll ask her to phone when she gets home.

Meanwhile, I've been searching the net, and found a link to the store, which supposedly had a map. Have we been looking at a completely different place, or is this just another typical Thai map?

I must say, this does not look a likely area to find a karate store.

That is a map of down near the river, Big Boy. Also near the giant swing and therefore not anywhere near Vibhawadee Rd.
It is not unusual to find something like this! The shop may have moved, somebody may have put the wrong label on it or whatever. That is another reason why you should check with the shop.
I had one recently where I went out of my way to place advertising something I wanted. When I got to the address the whole area was fenced off and under redevelopment. When I had somebody call them not only did they say "we not there anymore", they also no longer sell the item that I was after! :banghead:

I had something similar on Soi Binthabaht a few weeks ago. Some friends were over, and asked us to meet them in Tina Bar. Checked the Hua Hin Bar Map, and when we got there, it was a shell

Mrs BB is back from the market, and has phoned them. They are going to e-mail me a map and directions later today :D

Thank you again to everybody for their help and advice on this one.

Trip abandoned - the map never materialised. Further telephone conversations revealed that despite calling itself a store, they don't carry any stock. You tell them what you want, and they will order it for you via the internet at a massive mark up. I can do that without the mark up. :guns:

Thanks again for your help.
