Where best to overnight break a Hua Hin to Samui drive

Post by easyas »

Does anyone have a favourite overnight resting place for the weary traveller from Hua Hin to Samui (via Donsak) they are prepared to divulge?

Chumphon is about halfway but there isn't much in the town, Bangsaphan maybe better: www.bangsaphanguide.com

Continue past the last Don Sauk ferry turn off and relax in Khanom. Yes a long ways (7 hours drive) but quiet village with a few nice beach side "resorts".

I have not done the trip for a couple of years, but for me I would stay overnight in Surat Thani. It is still a bit of a drive to Don Sak from Surat Thani, and then you may have to wait there for awhile to catch the next ferry. The last time I did do the trip I went without a stopover, and it was after dark by the time we got to the Island and found the accommodation, and we were lucky to arrive at Don Sak just in time to drive straight onto the ferry.

Coming back there was also a big delay waiting for the next ferry on Koh Samui, regardless of setting off early in the morning. So I guess an overnight coming back should also be planned.

Have made overnight breaks when going south a couple of times stayed at Nana resort at Chomporn, really nice place for a chilled out overnight stop. More details in this topic.php?f=7&t=21150

Have a nice trip

Why would any one in their right mind drive past the ferry port that can take them where they want to go to spend money on a hotel and then drive back to the place they have already past to then get a ferry the next day ? It is only just over 500 km's so is easily done at a steady 90 - 100 KPH in around 6 hours. Set off from HH at 07-00 and with a couple of rest stops you can be on Samui by 5pm.
I have done the same trip many times and the same trip from BKK to Samui easily.
I never forget a face but in your case I'll make an exception!
