Condo close to the Sheraton, north area of HH

Post by stevieboy »

I am without car and dont think I want to buy one either but I am curious if anyone living close to the Sheraton can answer this for me?

I know there are nice beach front hotel properties around there but what about everything else for everyday living? Do you feel that you must always commute to city central for everything? Thinking of buying condo close to Sheraton but am concerned its too remote from everything else!

I would appreciate your thoughts and any advise. Thanks in advance!

I live by the Makro around soi 4 and its a four or five minute motor bike trip to the Sheraton. Makro seems to have everything I need as far as foood and drink, but for the things they dont have I do make the 10 minute motorbike trip to downtown Villa Market, Lotus etc. You'll also find that there is a second road acessed by soi 2 that that runs parallel to the main road that will bring you more in touch with Thai culture, as in shops and such, also where immigration office is.

If you enjoy pubs or cafes to meet people and get to know regulars, there is nothing like that by the Sheraton, so you will have to take a tuk tuk or somtel for about 200 baht for the tuck tuk or 20/40 baht for the somtel and its not recomended to drive your motorbike from the pub. So if youre a person who likes to go out drinking and be able to walk back to your flat, forget that area. Move closer to downtown.

If you like private beaches and getting back quicker from Bangkok trips, its easier to live by the Sheraton. Avoid the 45 minute back up sometimes.

The Sheraton is located in Cha Am, Phetchaburi, despite its misleading name.

So you also have the benefits of travelling in the 'other' direction too.

Some good eating places close to Sheraton, and heading towards Cha Am. for socializing with other Farang, I guess there is no particular hotspot, or local watering hole, guess Downtown HH fills the bill nicely for that one.

Without car or motorbike, that area may feel a little 'remote', but I guess it really depends what you need. My place is in Cha Am, and I like there very much, but of course I spend much of my time in Bangkok, so Cha Am makes a very nice contrast

As others have mentioned, the area immediately near the Sheraton doesn't have very much in the way of night life, although there are a few bars. Winkie has said that strictly speaking it comes within the area of Cha Am and whilst that may be true, in terms of km's, it is slightly closer to the centre of HH than CA, but in both cases not suitable for venturing out to drink in the evening by motorcycle. The Makro store is about 5 km's away towards HH where you can get most of your shopping needs, plus a big market that I believe operates every afternoon/evening no more than a km away.
