Now a friendly piece of advice. If you have a lot of strays dogs in your soi, they are there for one reason. Somebody is feeding them. We had about 25 stray dogs in our soi, I spotted somebody who did not live in our soi feeding them, they were spoken to very nicely and advised that is they fed them in some waste land about 400 yards away it would be better. So every day when she came round we showed her where to feed the dogs, every night the feeding place was moved 30 to 40 yards till they were far enough away. They never came back to the soi because there was no food. Simple isnt it. The people I helped used to capture the dogs get them neutered and release them, this will reduce the stray dogs gradually. I do not know if anyone is doing that in Hua hin now but if you know someone that is doing that ask them to do your soi. These dogs will only go where there is food stop the supply and and will not congregate in your area. Like any problem look for the cause of the problem and you will solve it.

The one I helped in used to rescue and rehome them. This was closed down by the council because they buit on opposite cost a lot of baht it was sponsored by a member of they royal family. Unfortunately corruption as you know abounds and although the people running it were being paid they never actually did anything while I was there. I went to look at it and it had about 20 dogs in it. What the situation is now I do not know because it was not doing what it was put there for this was one of the reasons I left Thailand. The original purpose was to rescue, neuter and make sure dogs were healthy then rehome them. Could never see that happening 2 of the staff used to spend there time tottering around in their high heels or doing their nails.

I agree. Why not offer your 'friendly advice' FIRST before insulting people?

This is not true, is it? When I had a problem and tried to save two dogs from being poisoned, you publicly berated me. When I then suggested instead of foaming at the mouth, you come and take the dogs off my hands, predictably you went quiet.

So your solution was to leave the country and abandon the dogs for others to sort out.

You should have left a free bag of nail varnish 20 yards away, then gradually moved the bag until they were doing their nails in a salon.

To be honest, I must agree with Mr Plum on this one, in that there was no need for anyone to post such insulting comments. Everybody is entitled to their own opinions.


While I most certainly do like the idea of dogs being used for food, I am also willing to accept the fact that for some people/cultures, dogs are seen as a type of food. Why is it acceptable to kill a chicken, a cow, a lamb, a pig and a goat for the purpose of putting meat on the table, but not a dog?

Like I've said, I don't like the idea of dogs being slaughtered, but I also don't think I have the right to impose my views on those who do like eating dog meat. Perhaps the governments in certain countries should do more to enforce some sort of control which would ensure that dogs which are destined for the table are slaughtered humanely. If properly regulated, a great deal of the cruelty which currently takes place could be eradicated.


Again, I hate the idea of dogs being slaughter as much as the next person, but let's just remember that for many people, eating dog meat is the norm.

Plum I did not abandon dogs all the dogs we looked after were rehomed. Another slanderous statement by you. As to publicly berating you may be I did cannot remember the thread and cannot be bothered looking as it is only you.
Takiapv UIn my view they insulting comments they were valid comments on the extreme inhumane comments and insults of another member. Also I think you meant do not but I cannot disagree with your reasoning, my thoughts are no animal need be mistreated whether it is bred for food or as a pet.

NAKHON PHANOM, Nov 8 -- Some 200 dogs were rescued from a smuggling racket, found in a truck, about to cross the Mekong River to the neighbouring country of Laos.

A white six-wheel truck with Sakon Nakhon registration plate was found parked near the Mekong River in Nakhon Phanom's Ban Phaeng district.

Nakhon Phanom police and provincial Livestock Development Department personnel inspected the truck, finding dogs crammed into 40 cages, seven to 10 dogs per cage.

The driver apparently abandoned his vehicle, and fled the scene before the authorities arrived.

Local authorities believed the dogs were enroute to neighbouring countries for sale as meat for human consumption as the cold season is arriving.

Dog meat is especially in demand in Vietnam during the cold season.

The Thai officials vowed to apply strict measures to prevent smuggling of dogs. Those in custody were to be sent to the Nakhon Phanom Animal Quarantine Station. (MCOT online news)
