Yesterday watched Ivan Basso win the 'Giro de Italia' what a rider, especially on the climbs.
He has to be a good bet for the 'Tour de France'

Old thread but still relevant...

Looks like another sporting icon might fall due to cheating... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cycling/19433990

'The bulk of that evidence is testimony from at least a dozen of his former team-mates and associates'

'Usada... is confident the statute of limitations does not apply as Armstrong has previously lied under oath when asked about drug-taking. '

"He was not just a part of the doping culture on his team, he enforced and re-enforced it.

"Armstrong's use of drugs was extensive, and the doping programme on his team, designed in large part to benefit Armstrong, was massive and pervasive.

"Armstrong and his co-conspirators sought to achieve their ambitions through a massive fraud now more fully exposed. So ends one of the most sordid chapters in sports history."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cycling/19927300 "The entire Armstrong era should be wiped from the record books."

Strange no-one else is commenting on what is a huge story. The downfall of a sporting icon.

There's another article http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cycling/19930514 where a US Postal rider refused to dope and the decision ended his career. The doping was clearly extensive...

"You get frustrated when your peers are beating your head into the gutter," he says, the frustration still in his voice. "When you're at an Amstel Gold Race and you can barely hold the wheel of the guy in 80th place.

"That same guy, you smoked three months previously. And you're thinking 'I've been training. I've lost two, three kilos. How is this guy suddenly so much better than me?'"

Next up for the chopping block is the UCI who it appears... ahem... conspired to protect Armstrong.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cycling/19954565

'Armstrong's former US Postal team-mate Tyler Hamilton has testified that Armstrong "bragged he had managed to have a positive finding covered up".

"The UCI should never have accepted money from Armstrong under any circumstances," said Ashenden.

"But if they took money after they were aware there were grounds to suspect Armstrong had used EPO, it takes on a really sinister complexion.'

Have you not noted Mr P, that you have posted 4 replies on this old thread and nobody (other than me now) has bothered to comment on your ramblings - why don't you give up and go and join another forum?

Ok. To give you a little more respect than you are showing me, you have complained about Current Affairs posts before and been told by moderators to ignore those that don't interest you. If you still have an issue with them, then it really is your problem.

Huh :? - what brought this on? I haven't posted because cycling isn't my numero uno sport and to be honest, whats come to light is what many assumed for a good while. I just assumed the UCI were corrupt in any case because there have been so many scandals and no decisive action taken to stop it. In some respects it just seems time has been the healer - as current posted times are proving.

The view count ticking over shows these posts are being read, if not commented upon. Not that it matters. The world will keep on turning.

So now Obama's back in can we reopen the federal enquiry into Armstrong as it wont upset the electorate now?

Sports cheat and corporate asset, Lance Armstrong is doing a Tiger Woods and apparently ready to confess his sins on Oprah. I hope it isn't as excruciating as Tiger's humiliating performance. Not that I'll be watching.

This calculating cheat is perfect for political high office.

The man was an out and out cheat and should be stripped of every single title he ever won and if possible, he should be made to hand back any prize money he made.

That applies to all sports persons who cheat in whatever form. :guns:

He is basically going to do and say anything that will mean you will still donate money to the Livestrong Foundation.

Amen to that. Soccer 'divers' and divas should be awarded a Ballet Dancers Award for their wonderful pirouettes. Shirt-pullers, nut-squashers and drama queens should be banned from soccer for life and forced to become wealthy and celebrated film stars..

1-5 odds on the interview being directed towards 'Well everyone else in the top 10 were doing it..." are offered at Ladbrokes.

1-2 odds on that he breaks down crying about the whole thing.

2-1 odds that he still has both his testicles.
