Trip to Pattaya - accomodation

Post by Big Boy »

Sometime in the next 4/5 weeks Mrs BB and I plan to visit Pattaya for an 'old times sake' visit. We've looked up some of our old hotels that we used to stay in over 12 years ago, and they don't seem to exist anymore.

I've checked several hotel sites, and there seems to be a fair bit of reasonably priced accommodation available, but as things are supposed to have changed so much since we were last there, we are looking for hotel recommendations, which are within the 'active' part of the city e.g. one thing we hope to do, is take a walk down Walking Street as that does not seem to have changed that much judging by photos/videos we've seen.

Is Walking Street still the main bar area, or has this moved somewhere else? In which case, we'd be looking for a budget(ish) hotel with easy access to both areas.

Any hotel/guest house we consider must have its own parking, and preferably free WiFi. All recommendations gratefully received, and will be considered.

I like staying here, its on soi buakhow, you can catch a baht bus out the front to the tuesday/friday markets for cheap clothing approx 5min travel. At night time same baht bus (10bht) goes to walking street 15min travel.
The restaurant on site has a cheap bar 55bht beers and no bargirls or hawkers so a comfortable place to sit and eat with your lady. There is a swimming pool on site plus a very large jacuzzi on the first floor of the main building, which is nice to relax in.
Soi lk metro is an up and coming bar/gogo scene now its about a 5min walk if you turn right out of the hotel.
Many bars and restaurants located near by in soi lengkee and soi diana
Of course walking street is still a great spectacle and a fun night out once in a while so definitely check it out.
Pattaya beer garden on a sunday afternoon is a nice place to sit, its located at the start of walking street on the water and quite relaxing place for a beer and lunch.
Parking available and free wifi available plus reasonable cable tv,prices range from 500bht to 940bht depending on room type and season i guess.

Try Areca Lodge in soi Diana or LK Renaissance if you want to treat yourself. Nature View in Soi Buakeaw - is 1050 a night has nice pool out back and the rooms are clean - not flash but certainly ok.
That whole area is good fun and not as over the top as Walking street. Plenty of great retaurants in teh area to - Lees Diner do a fanastic pizza, Beefeater brilliant steaks to name a few.
Have fun!

I do not go there very often, but I can recommend the following. Easy walking distance to all you may require, secure parking, good rooms.

Depends on your budget I guess, Tims Boutique Hotel is very nice with jacuzzis in the room, think on agodo around 2k a night, areca was always about 1k but may have gone up

loads on soi honey at 700-1000 a night, many new mini hotels there

all above within easy walking distance or baht bus to where you want

Take a look at this place BB. Been around forever and a good reputation. In the middle of throbbing beer bars though and don't know about noise late at night. They don't mention internet but where it's located there is wi-fi and 3G everywhere. Anyway, something to look at.

I don't have many other ideas as we go very infrequently now and when we do, we stay by the beach usually closer to Jomtien. Pete

EDIT: No parking that I know of but public lots close by. I'm sure if you ask them they'll map it out for you.

Here's another one a 5 minute walk from the Pig & Whistle, on the corner of Central and Beach. Formerly the Centera...and before that the famous Nova Lodge/Nipa Lodge. One of the first hotels in Pattaya. Showing it's age but quiet and OK...and has plenty of parking. Straight shot down Beach Road to Walking Street. Pete

Areca Lodge is very good value and well placed. Walking St is good for just that--have a walk up and down it and then go to Soi LK Metro for entertainment.

Thanks guys, I'm not ignoring your responses, in fact I'm reading them all with interest. All contributions are being gratefully received. The problem is that I can't do anything about them until after 25 Nov, when we'll decide when we're going.

I 100% endorse these two hotels and for the reasons given by JD

BB, it depands on where you want to stay. Do you want a bit of quiet or full-on nightlife?
The Buakhao/LK Metro area is very noisy at night. Areca is good but advance booking is advisable because it is getting to high season. Some like Chaba Hut off Buakhao in its own park.

We'd like to stay somewhere that we can get to sleep at night, but we'd also like to be within easy striking distance of the 'full-on' Pattaya experience (wherever that might be these days).

I used to stay at the LK Hotel 5 months at a time and no problem at all with noise and I use the Areca when I go these days and also no noise, as both hotels have good central air conditioning in the rooms. You can also get a back room if you want but above all the location is excellent.

Don't be put off about the noise comment as it is irrelevant if you use the A/C , after all what do you expect from any central location - peace and quiet !!

LK Metro is very noisy because it is a L-shape and the sound bounces around a lot. I've stayed there twice and its very loud to 2am and later. All the fun is withih easy reach due to baht buses running a loop along Beach Rd and returning along 2nd Road as well as along Buakhao to Pattaya Tai and back along 2nd.
Sois 2,3 and 4 are quiet and leafy if you want to be out of the madness some of the time. The LK chain offers quality accom in different parts of town but expect to pay 1500+.

As JW said in an earlier thread, and endorsed by me, it is the LK Renaissance in Soi Diana we are referring to, and which is some 150 yards from the Areca Lodge, and some 600 yards from the sea

You refer to the Lk Metropole which is in Soi Buakhao which is a wholly different situation.
