Moving July 28th to Hua Hin!!
Moving July 28th to Hua Hin!!
Good afternoon everyone,
I wanted to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Jamie, I am 41 and currently live in Pattaya. I moved here about an year and half ago thinking it would be a great place to live, which of course was true for the first 3 months or so but I quickly learned how it's more of a place for a 2 week holiday than a permanent place to live. I came on holiday one weekend to Hua Hin and Cha-am and absolutely fell in love with the places, I am sure I don't have to explain to most of you why Hua Hin is nicer than Pattaya... it's quite obvious.
I was in Hua Hin a few weeks ago trying to narrow down a place to live, I really liked the Breeze apartments and Tira Tirra but it seems like once a place is put on the market for rental it gets swiped up pretty quickly! Even in July, the lowest month of all low seasons! (Glad I am not looking in December) Quite surprising to me. I guess there are more condos here in Pattaya than people wanting to rent so its quite easy to find a nice place. Hopefully I will find something next week. I have been using Century 21 and Hot Property and they have been extremely helpful.
I do have a couple of questions I hope some of you can answer. I was renting a nice black PCX bike here for 4000 baht a month, is there any place comparable in Hua Hin to rent ? I know I was getting a good deal because it was for 6 months at a time. Most places I have called don't seem to carry Hona PCX's and they want at least 4000 a month for a smaller bike such as a Wave.
I will be attending Insight language school, got myself a year education visa. Anyone else go there and have an opinion of the quality of the school ? Just wondering.
Can anyone tell me if one internet provider is better than the rest ? Or does it depend on the area you are in. I viewed a few apartments and it was mentioned that I could choose the provider I wanted to. Over here you are either in a 3BB, True Move or TOT area, you don't get to choose your internet provider, my 3BB is currently not the best service. It is very important to me because I still work part time remotely as a computer programmer so a dependable connection is paramount.
I hope to meet some new friends while I am out there, I am happy to be moving to more relaxed place, I am over the hustle and bustle of Pattaya at this point and to be honest if I never see Walking Street again the rest of my life that would be ok! Would be nice to meet a nice girl and settle down as well. I ran into a few situations here where I met girls I thought were nice, hotel receptionists, girls working in Central Festival, but it turns out they still end up freelancing at the weekends! I guess the money is too good to pass up, or maybe it's just to be expected in Pattaya... Anyway, Hope I get some replies and maybe meet some of you for a drink! Take care. Jamie.

Welcome to the forum Jamie. I'm afraid that I don't know the answer to your questions. All that I can say is that I'm on 3BB (the cheap 6mb version), and it is generally fine - a few hiccups, but never had a serious problem.

Hi Jamie,
True have been round this week offering Fibre optic in some areas of town with 10MB, must be better than the 3BB we use now! See you again soon.
Cheers,

I wouldn't bank on that!jumusman wrote: Thanks for the info. I have the 12mb cause I need the extra speed, just hope its more reliable than over here!

I have no experience of the better packages personally, but one of our forum members, sandman67, is adamant that the premium 3BB packages here in Hua Hin give no more than the basic package that I have.jumusman wrote:Thanks for the info. If it is in your area CAT is very fast. Can pay for much quicker service for more baht. When it is on it is fast but I find it does flutter around a bit. No comparison to the old TOT service I once had.
Re: Moving July 28th to Hua Hin!!
I've used CAT before and found them terrible, 3BB are not much better and neither are TOT. True seem to be a little more professional being a private company but the sort of speeds we're talking about in this thread are still a few years away for the masses in Hua Hin.

Thanks for the info on the bike. I tried quite a few different places and the prices for monthly rental are quite a bit higher than I expected. About 3000 baht more a month than I am used to paying. Even when I guaranteed I would rent for a 6 month contract! I ended up sending a bike from a rental place in Pattaya through the post office. Didn't cost that much.

As for the internet, had 3BB going for 3 months now, excellent stuff. Have the 16mbps package and have not had one hiccup yet, I run speed tests and the download speeds are great. I download movies and TV shows all the time. 3 months and have never had a reason to call 3BB for assistance. (Knock on wood)
On the other hand I have a True Move aircard that sucks ass. I thought they had decent coverage in Hua Hin but forget it, can't connect in my apartment and I am across the street from Market Village. Even trying to connect to True Move WiFi in the mall there is coverage on the 1st floor but in and out on the other floors. Many people must have complained about this spotty service before but of course the True Move shop had no answers.
Even my 3G or Edge service is terrible, I have to walk out to pool in my complex just to make/answer calls. I switched over to DTAC last week because I hear they have the best coverage here, I simply have to be able to use my phone. Takes 3 weeks to switch over if I keep the same phone number but its worth the wait!
