In Asia, anti-Feng Shui can work for the sceptical Westerner. Orientals that follow that sort of thing won't buy houses on an inside corner and those plots can be substantially cheaper!

I often wonder how people like Bill Gates have managed to enjoy such good fortune without stuff like this, and without having certain trees in certain areas of the garden.

OP, this is Thailand. Any piece of land can be a good Feng Shui site if you have some money spare.

Two things I've come across:

1) Asians, especially Chinese, won't buy a house where the stairs leading upstairs are a straight shot from the front door. Fear of ghosts coming in and going to the bedrooms. Sellers in California had one hell of a time with the issue given all the Asian families arriving in decades past.

2) Here in Thailand, Thais hesitates to buy a house with the front facing west. Apparently going back to the old days when more people were buried than burned. The graves always had the head pointing west. I'll have to check one of the Chinese cemeteries here to see if people are still laid out that way. Pete

Pete, I was told I was crazy because I suggested putting a bed in a room pointing to the West!

In the Village the the builder would not build the house with the toilet on the east side.
And then there is the perennial one of not having the front and back doors opposite each other, as any "good" coming in the front door will immediately be blown out the back door!

But it was OK to have the upstairs bathroom directly over a small downstairs bedroom. :?
