Sabai/Bam Bam's restaurants
Strayed out of town last night to a new place (to us) on Soi 116 (just past the new Tesco and turned right at 7/11 - the restaurant was about 100 yds up)
Just a small place with a nice relaxed atmosphere, and good friendly service. The food was excellent and good value for money Plenty of options on the menu including Issan, European and Country style. We stuck to the Thai style and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Apparently the owner has only been their for about 15 months Noticed that Sabai was closed on the 1st and 15th of each month.
PS re visited Bam Bams and Kims Kitchen and still good - particularly Bam Bams.

Yes The Sabai restaurant has received numerous good reports and very well deserved too, by my taste buds and wallet.Rone wrote:Strayed out of town last night to a new place (to us) on Soi 116 (just past the new Tesco and turned right at 7/11 - the restaurant was about 100 yds up)

Been to Kim's really good. Where is Bam Bams ? Cheers
Re: Sabai restaurant
Bam Bams is at the back of the temple looking towards the Hilton. There are a group of about 4/5 restaurants but we think Bam Bams is the best of the bunch. Nice family run place with good food, service at reasonable cost considering position in center.

I don't know if you remember the original Bam Bams' Rone - on the open land down there before the row of proper buildings went up. But that name came from the owners' daughter, who was nicknamed Bam Bam (no doubt after the Flintstones!) and the restaurant became known as that too.
So now I'm wondering what the original name was - anyone remember?

Bam Bam has always been named Bam Bam as far as I know.margaretcarnes wrote: So now I'm wondering what the original name was - anyone remember?
The girl is 13 years old now and her parents named and opened the restaurant after she was born.
Re: Sabai restaurant
Interesting - chatting to the owner one night he was telling us of how many restaurants have come and gone in the 17 years the family have been there. Agree one daughter is/looks around 13yrs but they also have another daughter who lives away and is a teacher - 27 yrs old I believe. So what was the original name? or was it named after the first daughter?
I will ask next time we are in there - unless some one knows the answer already.

Re: Sabai restaurant
We allways knew it as Gows after the lady who owned it,long before we knew it as Bam Bams after her daughter who is now thirteen. In those days she had a bigger plot table's and chairs on the dirt and gravel, did not seem to many other restaurants there at the time .
Re: Sabai restaurant
Why didn't they call their daughter Pebbles?
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.

Thanks Magnum - I remember when Bam Bam was just a baby and the restaurant seemed well established then.magnum wrote:We allways knew it as Gows after the lady who owned it,long before we knew it as Bam Bams after her daughter who is now thirteen. In those days she had a bigger plot table's and chairs on the dirt and gravel, did not seem to many other restaurants there at the time .

Re: Sabai restaurant
PS Bam Bam will be about the same age as 'Boat' - another case of name the kid after the restaurant!

Re: Sabai restaurant
Ok historically
Bam Bams had no name and when they opened the restaurant (as opposed to the stall) they were looking for a name and canvassed regular expat customers. Suggestions included "Sussies" and "Flintstones" eventually the family decided on naming it after their new daughter whos nickname was (wait for it) BAM BAM
so now we know. Incidently the mum who of course is queen of the kitchen is not very well.

Who was "waiting for it"? Magnum already said. Most knew anyway.
