Browning Sauce (Substitute for Kitchen Bouquet or Gravy Master)
0
RELATED TOPICS: GRAVYDINNERSIDE DISHCHRISTMASBEEF
Ingredients

0.50 cup sugar
1 cup hot water
1 to taste beef base
Use imperial measurements
Method

How to make Browning Sauce (Substitute for Kitchen Bouquet or Gravy Master)

Be careful while preparing this as it may sputter.
Add the sugar to a saucepan and heat on a low or medium-low heat until browned, about 5-10 minutes. When the mixture starts to get dark, take it off the heat and carefully add the water (this may sputter and you don't want to get burned).
Add the beef soup base and put back on a low heat, stirring until the water is all mixed inches
Cool and store in a disposable container.
Use a spoonful or two when making gravies, stews, sauces, meatloavs, meatballs, etc.

Adds the flavour, but doesn't "brown" if making gravy....

I remember "Sarson's Gravy Browning" in the UK, which I would think is similar - whether or not you can get in Thailand is of course another question....

Bisto Gravy Powder?? Not the gravy granules

"aah! BISTO The Original GRAVY POWDER for Roast Beef, Lamb, Pork & Chicken. Bisto Original is a starch based mix for browning, seasoning and thickening gravy"

Ingredients
Potato Starch , Salt , Wheat Starch , Colour (E150c) , Dried Yeast , Onion Powder .

Have not seen it available in HH. Usually I only see the granules, in tubs, at places like Villa

Thanks everyone. Still not the same I'm afraid concerning flavour. Those ingredients listed in the OP, along with whatever secret spices they have in there, makes it kind of unique. The wife has looked everywhere except Villa, so maybe we'll luck out when she goes later this week. Pete
