Damn Fortuner drivers..

Post by usual suspect »

As many regulars on here know, my pet hate in Hua Hin/Thailand is the arrogance/pig-headed nature of ALL Toyota Fortuner drivers.. :(
Is it some brain-transformation these drivers adopt when they buy one of these..?? :?

The choice of SUVs include MU 7s, Pajeros, BMWs, all of which, as a rule are driven with respect for other road-users, that leaves 1 other party..Fortuner owners!

Example 1 (today).. Turning right off Petkasem Rd, from the segrigation-lane in the middle..my truck being the 5th (& last) of the chain of cars slowly making the turn..the oncoming traffic had all slowed-up..allowing us all to make our move into our intended side Soi.
All oncoming traffic except for 1 that is..up comes a Fortuner, he's seen the situation from a long way back, but kept on coming right at us.
As mentioned, I was the last to follow-on..the Fortuner came right up to me, making a bold issue, & creating a very needless scenario...stopping within feet of my truck, then flashing his lights profusely..YOU TO**ER.. :banghead: :banghead:
I was only moving forward slowly, as was the rest of us..IF this Di**head had just eased-off his speed when he saw what was taking place ahead of him..he would have (by the time he got to us) had a clear road ahead of him.
So IF by chance you were this driver I hope you fully understand the pronounced finger-jesture you were awarded.. !!

Example 2 (yesterday).
On leaving the 'main' Traffic lights on Petkasem Rd and heading West up to the rail-crossing on Chomsin Rd..(again) I was last in a line of motorcycles..a Fortuner forced itself between US & the line of bikes & the traffic waiting facing East..after bullying his way past us all, forcing each bike right into the gutter, he then braked & swung his car left into the 'market-St.' causing all the bikes to brake sharply to avoid hitting his doors..again WHY do this..?? :banghead:

As I've ranted on here before..
* There's a car 'double-parked' causing traffic problems..
* The Traffic lights change to Red..what car will keep on driving thru'..?
* No matter what speed you're doing on the way to BKK, 1 vehicle will come up behind you flashing
his lights & making an issue...
* The sign says 'No U turns'..yup, you've guessed it..

Every time it will be a Fork**g-Tuner!

Obviously only a minority of these drivers in HH will be Farangs, but I say to all other road-users in the area, please look out for them, & the stunts they will pull!
RANT OVER. :duck: :duck:

And they are often the ones who just tag on to the end of a line of traffic doing a turn when they don't have the right of way and expect other road users who do have the right of way to give it up until the entire line of traffic waiting to cross the right of way has done so; very often with total disregard to the speed of the oncoming traffic. Tsk Tsk.

Ugly behavior by Fortuner drivers is no surprise . . .I have always found the "Fortuner" to be a really ugly vehicle and can not fathom why anyone would want to drive such a beast. Dont get me wrong. I "get' SUV's. I used to have a Rav4 and loved it ( is that considered an SUV?". .and I drive a Toyota. These huge Fortuners just seem out of proportion to humans, awkward looking and generally covered with all sorts of useless mirrors, bars, gadgets, tv and shiny junk meant to show off the owner's wealth I suppose . .bad taste goes right along with the bad driving.

It would have to be a psychologists dream to delve into the mind of a Fortuner driver!
There has to be some primeval reason why so many of them are affected with whatever it is when they get behind the wheel of one.

I have a Canadian friend in Pattaya that is a really nice easy going friendly type of bloke, until he gets into that horrible car! He is a good driver, and has worked and driven all over the world, but turns into an instant a---hole as soon as his backside is in the seat.

There is one Farang in Hua Hin that I have seen several times crossing over and parking on the wrong side of the Pala-u road near the Tesco shop. I do not know him, so maybe he does crap like that in other situations, but I am willing to bet he would not do it in his home country. :guns:
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

I have to laugh at this thread. You guys are blaming a chunk of metal, wires and rubber rather than the person operating it. I'm going to contact the church to send an exorcist immediately to Toyota HQ. I think the perception may be because there are so many of them on the road. If the majority owned PJS's, MU7's, Everests etc., I'm confident we would be seeing the same with them.

I think Toyota is going to come out with a completely new Fortuner in 2014 and we can see if the curse is then lifted. :D Pete

It is the sense of power they get from driving an

URBAN ASSAULT VEHICLE

which is another nickname for SUV's.

:agree: put the same driver into a Pajero or Ranger and he will still drive like a maniac. It was (and probably still is) the same with many BMW drivers in the UK who think they own the roads and can pull in and out without signalling - stereotyping of course, same as here with Fortuner drivers, I once saw one being driven very sedately :D

There will always be more Toyota's here due to quality, service and resale value. The other SUV manufacturers have a long, long way to go to catch up. Pete

The Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Hilux Vigo will undergo a major redesign for 2014. The new Models are expected to be released late 2013 This IMV overhaul is known as IMV II. Next Model Toyota Fortuner 2014 and Next Model Toyota Hilux 2014 are being built by a worldwide Toyota team.

Engineers of Toyota Australia have now been brought on board to bring their expertise in re-design. Toyota Technical Centre Australia will responsible for development of the all-new SUV from the point where the project diverges from the HiLux on which it is based. Toyota Australia engineers will also lead chassis tuning of the HiLux.

The bad news
Below is a photo of a black test mule camouflaged heavily to hide what otherwise is a more aggressive front-end compared to its predecessor. It is being tested Bangalore

“More Aggressive front end” just what we need for already aggressive drivers I think urban assault vehicle is quite near the mark!

There could be bargains to be had. I bought a Toyota Tiger 2door 4WD in 2004 two weeks before the Vigo was introduced. A Thai friend was able to get a 100,000 Baht reduction as they were trying to clear existing stock quickly. The only time I've EVER seen a substantial price discount offered here. Keep in mind if in the market when they announce the official release dates as almost all potential buyers will wait for the new models. Pete
