Au contraire. For me, it's quite the opposite. No matter how it's dressed up I can't get excited about which is the best brand of oil to make chips.
Anyway, mustn't derail this most gripping of topics.

Mr P

you make it sound as if most members of the forum are obsessed with talking about food

This is not the case at all. Eating is very much a part of life. If you take the remote highland forests of Papua New Guinea, for example. They live by hunting, gathering plants and growing crops. I would imagine that even
they discuss how to cook certain things they hunt or grow.
It may seem trivial to you, but sometimes people like to have lighter issues to discuss. I think the forum has a good range of topics. I know we have a few things like fish and chips etc that go on a bit, but nevertheless is quite informative.
A lot of countries enjoy cooking and eating out. It is a very good way for families to gather together, eating and discussing their day. If the conversation should go to "Gosh, these chips are nice tonight, have you used a different brand of cooking oil?" ...what the heck, does it matter?....no, it doesn't

They may have also discussed Libya, typhoon in the Philippines and other current affairs during the course of dinner as well.
I think if someone wants to post about "Biscuits and gravy" it's ok...if it is of no interest to you, there is no obligation to post a reply.

Just stick to the topics that interest you. I don't post on football, cricket, golf etc, but I certainly would not knock the topics.
By the way, what is the best brand oil for chips?
