Has anyone else tried Mr Tik's yet?
It's been open a while, but I only got round to it recently.
I ask, because I wonder if we just caught them on a bad day.
I think they are the people who were partners in Grandma's Papaya Salad a few years back. On the strength of that I was expecting good things, but it was all a bit disappointing. The only dish (of 4, 2xThai and 2xFarang) that came out with a real thumbs up was the chicken Musulman, but the downside to that was that they had no rotis to eat with it, which were delicious at Grandma's P S. My beef stroganoff was bland, to say the least, and a bit short on beef. The spare ribs also very ordinary.
It was also pretty obvious that everything was pre-cooked and bunged in the microwave, which I don't like much.
The service wasn't up to much either.
Mon's Restaurant is a few doors down and in a different class, IMO.

Re: Mr Tik's soi 112
Hi DM,
My wife gets food there (either eat in or take out) often and I've eaten the food several times. We only use the place for Issan style Thai food and that has been good for the price, but I admit we have not tried the western food or other Thai regional foods (like Mussaman which originated in south Thailand I believe).
Also Tik, the lady who owns it (and was a partner in Grandma's Papaya Salad) has been ill for three months and has not been present in the restaurant much so the missus tells me this is why the food and service has suffered lately.
As a nit pick it's just Tik, not Mr. Tik as she is a lady and Mon's place is Mr. Mon as he is a man.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Mr Tik's soi 112
The missus always loves the Thai food there although not been for about 2 months when Tik had just got back to work. She was very ill and lost a lot of weight. There was an article she wrote in Hua Hin Today newspaper about her illness and how she was mis diagnosed at HH hospital and according to her BKK hospital virtually saved her life by diagnosing correctly her illness.
So did you take up your complaints with Tik or her husband (Tony I think?) DM ?

Point taken, Pagey, but it wasn't an "I demand to see the manager" kind of experience.Pagey wrote:So did you take up your complaints with Tik or her husband (Tony I think?) DM ?
Just disappointing compared to what I was expecting.
I'm glad you pointed that out, Mary...hhfarang wrote:As a nit pick it's just Tik, not Mr. Tik as she is a lady and Mon's place is Mr. Mon as he is a man.![]()

I've been to Tik's plenty of times, though not in recent months it must be said. Found the issan food to be great, though not quite as good as the one off the u-turn (though they're only open for breakfast/lunch anyway). Great Spring Rolls; crispy, full of veg and not a glass noodle in sight! Of the farrang food I've tried the breakfast which wasn't as good as Mr Mon's or Sinatras', and disappointingly came with wholewheat bread. I've also had the chicken 'fingers' (as in fish fingers, not as in actual chicken knucles!) which were fine - pretty much what you expect from a breaded chicken product.
The sign says they are open to 11pm but I have rolled up at just before 10pm before and they've already been packing away.
