On the way back from Koh Sukorn mrs buksi wanted to stop off at this place which is about 20km east of Krabi town. It is designated a national park so had the ten times farang price to get in (Thais 20, Foreigners 200). I usually avoid these places out of principle but it was free for the kids so pride and principle was put aside for the moment. Long gone are the days when foreigners that are working or resident in Thailand can get in for the Thai price, absolutely no chance unless I had a Thai ID card. Work permit, press card, driving license and polite pleading in Thai wont do anymore, this government wants every satang out of us.
The pool itself was quite impressive but the splendor was tainted by the hordes of overweight pasty-white bodies lulling around in it. A bit of a shock to the system to be surrounded by noisy farang tourists and vain self-obsessed tablet tapping Thais again after the tranquility of Koh Sukorn. I went off into the jungle to find the blue pool which was a bit more peaceful ...

Nice pics buksida.
When I worked in Krabi I visited Sa Morakot many times. Next time go there in the green season and avoid the Thai visitors on weekends and you will have the whole place to yourself.
I paid the Thai entrance fee there every time. Except one time. We were five of us. A farang friend (who - like me - had his work permit standby) with his Thai wife and their three year old daughter and me myself and I with my Thai girlfriend. That day there was a very hostile official who obviously enjoyed the power given to him and insisted on us paying farang price. He was very rude, loudly repeating 'you farang, you farang' showing off to his fellow Thais how tough he was. So we turned around and enjoyed a marvelous afternoon at the Krabi Hot Springs a few kilometres away where they let us all in for Thai price.
A short while after this incident I went back to Sa Morakot and got in for Thai price again as the Gestapo guy was no longer there. My experience over the years, visiting dozens of dual pricing places, is that there is not much of a government policy behind it but it really depends on the person and his mood. Like everywhere the officials bend and often even make up the policy/rules there and then.
During my last visit to a waterfall (Thais: 20, farangs: 200) here in Phuket a few months ago I got in for Thai price. I admit I had to do some talking but I managed and I did not even bring my work permit. Same Phuket Aquarium. Visited three times last year: paid Thai price without hassle every time.
I do not mean to hijack your thread but I would be interested in experiences from others who hold work permits and can speak Thai.

We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.

Probably warrants an entirely new thread. I must have completely run out of luck then with the park officials as I got the asshole everytime at every place and haven't managed to get in for a Thai rate for several years.Roel wrote: I do not mean to hijack your thread but I would be interested in experiences from others who hold work permits and can speak Thai.

My wife (Thai) does the arguing and I'd say 50% of the time we get at least a discount from the farang price. Not always the Thai price, but at least a discount.buksida wrote:Probably warrants an entirely new thread. The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.
