I've refrained from mentioning this place before as, while very nice, the owner was pretty inconsistent in opening up.
Anyway she's now overhauled her menu and appears to be opening every day so I thought it's worth a mention. Seafood noodle dishes, a couple of rice dishes, and steak all at very reasonable prices. The steak is fine but unspectacular, certainly better than you'd expect for a dish that leaves you with change from 100bt. The owner went on a course in bangkok to learn how to cook noodles and, judging by the reaction from my girlfriend, she was a very good student! My girlfriend liked her first bowl so much that she ordered a second (different) bowl even though she wasn't hungry any more. I noted mussels and squid amongst the other bits and bobs in her brew.
Beer also available. Closes quite early, about 8pm ish.

Re: Blah Blah Bar
Thanks Pleng. I've seen that place and wondered what it was. I told the missus about it and she and her Mother tried the noodle soup yesterday and she, being a connoisseur of noodle soups, recons it's in the top four in Hua Hin (Her favorites are two in Takiab, one that's so good people come from Bangkok to eat there and it's always busy) and one open only at night that's a makeshift operation on a sidewalk downtown.
Blah Blah is a good one for us because we live in the neighborhood so a short run for a good cheap lunch for the girls.

Could Baa Baa be at the Blah Blah?

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but seeing people are discussing noodle soup, you might want to try the one noodle soup restaurant in soi 6. Not sure what the name is because it's all in Thai, but if you turn into soi 6 from the main road, it's about 50 meters up, on your right hand side. I quite often see people queuing up outside waiting for a table (including a few Farang) so they must be doing something right. I mentioned it to my wife and she said it's quite a famous place among Thais because they do their noodle soups the old fashioned/original way. I've only been down twice, but never ate there because I couldn't be bothered standing in a queue.
Anyway,
I'd like to try the steak at this Blah Blah Bar, but it's a bit far to travel, and that just for a meal.

I had a friend who lived around that area who also spoke very highly of the noodles at Soi 6.Takiap wrote:Don't mean to hijack this thread, but seeing people are discussing noodle soup, you might want to try the one noodle soup restaurant in soi 6. Well. It's good steak at a extremely reasonable price but, to be honest, it's probably not worth travelling long distance for. Definitely worth stopping by if you happen to be in the area one lunch/dinner time, though.I'd like to try the steak at this Blah Blah Bar, but it's a bit far to travel, and that just for a meal.
Re: Blah Blah Bar
We rarely go north of Chomsin road so they are all in the south end or downtown. As far as I can gather from talking to her, the best two are in Takiab.Big Boy wrote:How about a better steer towards 1, 2 & 3
The best one in her estimation is also very popular with Bangkok Thais on weekends and holidays so considering where it is if they go there instead of the one thousand other places here it must be good.
It is called something like Grateo Tom Yum (sp) in Thai. It is located on the main road in Takiab in the area almost across the road from (maybe a little bit south of) the Thai/Indian place Smor. Sorry, that's the best I can do as I've never been there and am getting this information from a Thai that's not very good at directions...

The second one is also in Takiab in the row of restaurants beside Rom Mai. I have been there as they serve all kinds of Thai food besides noodles. I don't remember the name but it is a typical open air tin roof Thai restaurant and can be recognized by the front half (bow) of a wooden fishing boat sticking out of the front of the restaurant towards the road. Old timers here may remember this one being directly on Phetkasem road around about soi 73 or 75 in what was like an open air food court with several small stalls. The bow of the boat was in front of that location too. They moved about 5 years ago to Takiab. If you go there with a noodle eating spouse but want something else, I can recommend the pepper fish dish. It's bite sized boneless pieces of fish stir fried with some herbs and veggies and seasoned with pepper. Their other Thai dishes are good too and cheap.
The third one is somewhat nomadic so I'm not sure how she finds it but another one she likes is the small restaurant on the corner of Damneorn Kasem road (main traffic light) and Sa Song road just west of the TOT office and across from the water company, again, if I understand her directions correctly.

Thanks for that HHF.
Is the first onr on the corner of Soi 156? If so, we've found that one already, and it's excellent. If not, I'd definitely recommend it - you might have a new contender for your top 4.

Re: Blah Blah Bar
Had fish 'n chips from Blah Blah today. As with the steak mentioned above, it certainly wasn't the best I've had and was the crumbed variety (not beer battered), but for under 100 baht (99 to be exact) for a plate full of a nice sized piece of fish, a serving of chips, and a decent sized salad it was an excellent meal for the price. The fish was some kind of white fish and very tasty, even though it was not as firm as I would have liked. The crumbed batter was as good as any I've tried. The steak is fine but unspectacular, certainly better than you'd expect for a dish that leaves you with change from 100bt.
I think this place is quite a good find for those of us on a tight budget.

Re: Blah Blah Bar
Was in the area lunch time today (Sunday 6th) so stopped by the Blah Blah.
I had fried shrimp salad, wife had some noodle dish, a packet of some crisp like item that was at the table. 2 soft drinks total 195b
Must say, if you’re a big eater then you would need to order more, but for a light lunch it was great.
Nice owner and staff, and very clean. They say there going to start breakfasts soon, open 8am till 10pm.
We will return, many times I’m sure.
