Fox Film Corporation was founded in 1915. By the time it was purchased in 1935, becoming part of 20th Century Fox, it had earned a reputation appealing to strong directors. In the movie industry top management who had never directed, wrote or appeared in a movie routinely bent directors to their will. Fox didn't. They gave the experienced artists much leeway in how they brought their visions to the screen. In other words, power was decentralized.
Fast forward to Murdoch buying Fox and later starting Fox News. The only place on American TV that gives home to a lineup of Conservative commentators is Fox. Conservationism is all about a the federal government doing as little as possible, just the things that make no sense to be done at the state level such as defense, a single currency, foreign relations, etc. Otherwise, it's up to the people to elect state governments to bring their desired visions of the future.
I wonder if Murdoch chuckled when he first realized the coincidence.
Weird Coincidence: early Fox Film Corp. & Fox News now.
