Hua Hin air quality question

Post by BigMango »

I am planning to acquire a retreat property in Hua Hin and on a recent inspection noticed a lot of haze in the air, so much so that i could hardly see the mountains in the distance. If anyone knows what is causing this would they be kind enough to post the info please ? If its just weather haze then fair enough but my worry is that land clearing and or air pollution from elsewhere is the cause. many thanks.

I sit on my porch looking towards Hin Lek Fire daily. I've only recently noticed a haze, so I'm assuming it is simply down to the weather.

I just scanned my weather site for Hua Hin and it appears that this time of year the predominant wind is from the WSW, secondary North, third ESE. It's brush burning time all over Thailand and will be until the thunderstorms start in mid April. In addition, with lack of rain these months the air will be loaded with dust. Once the winds are primarily from the sea, East or ESE, and some rain arrives the air should clear up nicely. One good thing is that you don't have any or many belching factories to deal with down there. Pete

We have had the usual N.E winds for January, mostly in the mornings. Unfortunately that means that this wind is coming down from Bangkok, hence I suspect it is smog.Luckily the southerlies are starting to crank up from here on in for the next few months so should only be a bit of haze coming in off the sea.

Fire maps based on satellite data at http://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/fir ... er&l=ad,ct Map is centered on Chiang Mai but can be dragged and zoomed. Similar (same?) data in Google Earth format: http://earthdata.nasa.gov/data/near-rea ... -content-2

Where I am in Rayong the biggest problem has been dust. The winds have been from the North daily since before Christmas. Wash your car and in an hour it has dust. You can feel it in your nose and throat as well. Issan directly north of me is in drought so I guess it's all coming from there. Pete

I think they've used it all up over the years as an additive in a variety of packaged snacks.
