Europa League

Post by dtaai-maai »

I'm not too proud to start a thread on the Europa League...

Lyon 1-1 Spurs

Blimey, we didn't arf cut that fine!

I was all ready to write how anonymous Dembele had been and then he pops up and scores a cracker right at the death. To be fair, we had plenty of possession, Holtby hit the post, Bale missed a sitter and there was a good penalty shout on Lennon in the 2nd half.

But having said that, we were awful in the 1st half and hardly world beaters in the 2nd. Terrible passing, lack of ideas, no cohesion. Adebayor - mostly a waste of space; Dempsey - would be better if he put as much effort into winning the ball and using it as he does in trying to look supercool and unruffled; Parker - in headless chicken mode since he came back from injury; Walker - in danger of becoming more of a liability than an asset.

Still and all, we got there in the end! COYS!!

I'm not enjoying watching you know who miss chance after chance after chance (repeat infinite).

Benitez needs a good arse whipping. You don't leave 4 of your best players out, including 2 not in the squad and expect to stroll the game. Luckily, one of those 4, Hazard, came on and rescued us.

I pray the special one returns next year.

Good for Liverpool, although out, so not quite at the level of comebacks demonstrated by Chelsea v Napoli last season?

Draw for the last 16.....
Steau Bucuresti v Chelsea
Anzi Makhachkala v Newcastle
Tottenham v Inter Milan

Tough draw for Newcastle but I think the Spuds and Chelski have a decent chance of progressing.
We're all on our uppers,we're all going skint,

Why did Rodgers make two substitutions when the team were flying? Many of us old gits can remember Alf Ramsey doing that in the 1970 World Cup, winning 2 nil against Germany, replace two players and lose 3-2

To add a bit more of a goal threat I suppose, decent performance but was lost in the first leg.

Cracking game from Spurs tonight, but what was particularly encouraging was that, while Bale had a fine game, it was the best team performance I've seen in quite a while. I'm not sure if Inter made us look better than we were or if they just disintegrated, but confidence is visibly high and it was a joy to behold, with so many of the players on top form. If they can keep this up, we'll stay in the top 4 (obvious priority), with an outside chance of 2nd if we beat Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea!

A very happy Spurs fan.  :sun:

Didn't see the game so can't comment on the incident, but read the report and see that Bale was up to his old tricks again and got booked for diving.
