No, I'll just ignore future posts when forum members are getting scammed (seems to be a regular occurrence). Unless,of course, rules are being broken in the process.

Thanks for your feedback!
Our idea about using this forum to find potential partners for interviews was, that we DIDN'T want to cold call someone or just knock on someones door. To be honest, we didn't know about Kates survey, so we aswell have no idea what it was about.

What I can guarantee is, that we won't store any data and we are not even interested in names. Our survey is supported by the University of Vienna which already made two surveys on this topic in the Hua Hin area.

We are working on part 3 of this survey and we are in particular interested in the different housing options, health care facilities, demographic features and the social environment.

I will attach the detailed description of the project from university of vienna!

Kind regards,

Thomas and Alex

Why are you still claiming, that we want to scam someone? That's more than unfair. We are working on a serious study and it's up to you if you want to participate but don't do misrepresentations like this. thanks.

Thomas, thank you for the further explanation. I'm assuming that your reference to part 3 is no more than a typo, and you are actually working on part 2.

Your letter goes into project background, but it doesn't say what will happen to the data. What guarantees are there that the information will not end up in the hands of the ill disposed? Kate's study offered all sort of safeguards, but some 'damaging' or misrepresented data ended up in the wrong hands. What data protection guarantees can you offer please?

Who is sponsoring this study, and what is the study's stated objective please?

Sincere apologies if everything is above board, but I personally do not react kindly to cold callers - I'm afraid it's a sign of the times these days. With a project like this, surely it would have been better to introduce yourself and your project formally.

It means to call someone or to visit someone without making an appointment

IMO :? Why take the risk of giving a perfect stranger all the info about yourself, your lifestyle, income, health, what you eat for breakfast etc? Why have the worry of this info falling into the wrong hands?
It may well be that this particular survey might be genuine. On the other hand how do you know that it is not from some scammer in Nigeria who is after your bank details or identity theft?
About once a week I get phone calls from someone claiming to be a bank...when all they are doing is trying to sell insurance.
Without realising it, you give info to these surveys. These surveys have a clever way of building up info & data. :guns:

Hi Thomas

You get people in TIT mode quite a lot here (And elsewhere) Why not look into posting your survey or list of questions on the forum? That way people will understand what they are being asked whilst remaining anonymous and therefore do not have to worry about you stealing personal data or waiting until they are out so you can break in and sniff their used underpants  Feel free to PM me.

Good luck with your project and have a good weekend

Of course you are right, an anonymous survey online was an Option, but doing scientific research in this case means that you have to use a qualitative approach, which includes personal interviews, which offer way more possibilities for a good chat.

As I said, the idea about posting here was to show that we don't want to scam anyone. We wouldn't knock on anybody's door without having an appointment.

Cheers and thanks for your answers!

Hhad enough!

Well big boy, it would seem that you are having some success!

I would suggest you take a leaf out of other moderator's books and keep a low profile.

With respect everyone is entitled to their opinion as long as your not offending someone.
I share the same opinion about sharing information with complete strangers beware!
Now maybe if they approached a local university to help them endorse their project maybe that would be a different matter.

Out of genuine curiosity; why is the University of Vienna so interested in what goes on in an upmarket Thai holiday resort?
Do that many Austrians live in Hua Hin?
