"Lawyers are no better than cockroaches".

We're always "cockroaches", until you need us.

This "cockroach" has had enough of this kind of crap, and I doubt I will bother to post on here any longer.

Enjoy your roach free forum.

Blimey, we'll have estate agents and property developers throwing their toys out of the pram soon. Then bankers. Oh, and civil servants. Any retired politicians around?
The list of professions unpopular with the public is quite long. And pretty obvious really. Absolutely no need to take it personally, advocate.

DM You missed doctors, nurses, drug manufacturers, psychiatrists.
Advocate some members take a pleasure in annoying professionally trained experts. Please do not take it to heart.

Enjoy your roach free forum.
Please don't take it personally. It was a thoughtless throwaway comment based on a bad experience and I was wrong to generalize. Your posts have actually been very helpful and I hope you continue to post as you have done which I'm sure benefits the forum far more than my own provocative indulgent submissions. I have been called worse many times over and am used to it which probably makes me think others also have developed a thick skin.

Again. Many apologies.

I think the expat community needs to start a group. "Matrimony Anonymous"

If any ex-pat gentleman is thinking of marrying his Thai lady friend--at a moments notice a group of guys will meet with him and tell him horror stories till he changes his mind.

Unfortunately it's much like any other topic - good news is no news. Every now and again some one will start a positive thread about how great life is in Thailand, but you can guarantee it will die within a page or two. Feed us a tragedy (no disrespect, Mr D :thumb: ) and we'll feed for weeks... :(

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's given up saying how happy he is with the (Thai) woman he's been with for 8 years. Mainly because, with the best will in the world, nobody who doesn't know us really gives a shit!

It seems you are one of them. I am professionally trained and qualified in several areas and in one received a televised nationwide Industry Award, beating out technology professionals from Camelot, Ernst & Young, municipal councils and a number of other notables. The following year I was invited onto the judges panel. There are more literate and educated individuals around but as DM mentions, the professional classes are no more deserving of respect than the local milkman, when their qualifications and funny handshakes are used to mystify and stiff the great unwashed, rather than for the greater good.
I thought MrP simply took pleasure in annoying every bugger.... :duck:
Not so. Only one or two become seriously disturbed and I think it is more their problem than mine.

Plum you failed to put who wrote the second quote therefore inferring it was mine. It was not.
As to your qualifications I note you have no medical or pharmaceutical qualifications which you continually pass your extremely critical comments on on. Therefore my post is correct, as it would be for anyone not qualified. Also I did not refer to you by name I referred to members.

I wonder how that would compare to any advice Chavelit Finch would give. They surely know the culture much better than a lawyer in Switzerland
Firstly, have you personally used Chavelit Finch? On the two occasions that I have asked them to look at a case the answer was:
1. We do not do litigation.
2. We do not do collections.
Added to that it took them 5 days to bother to answer and then address the email with: "Hey"!

Secondly, if you bother to read the OP, he stated his Thai Lawyer is in Switzerland on holidays.

It is misleading comments like this that help to perpetuate the stories about Farangs having no legal rights in Thailand.
Yes you're right Nereus - the lawyer was 'away' and could in fact be Thai. But I'm not implying that farang have no rights under Thai law, simply that - as you have pointed out yourself - cases can drag on for years. But agreeing to what is a huge annual settlement could have unforeseen consequencies on the ex and her family.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

Which is why I use quotes and sources from those who ARE qualified including from within the industry itself.

Dobbie. For you to still be holding onto this after 5 years, deserves an entry all of its own in DSM-5.

:offtopic: Can we PLEASE have one thread free of personal squabbles, we're all getting sick of it. Those with nothing to say on the subject in question stay off the thread, these topics are not opportunities to constantly snipe at other members you disagree with.

Bit of an update,

Things progressing well and almost settled well below the wife's initial demands however something very interesting arose and I checked this both in USA and France, where I have homes and businesses.

The Thai wife, even if your marriage is not registered overseas can successfully sue you in court overseas at least in USA and France to gain a settlement based on all of your assets in those countries. It does not happen often as it is very time consuming and expensive for the wife. She will have to travel to each country personally and employ a legal representative to take the case on, this will take considerable money and time, at least in the USA. Each time having to get a visa, attend court for every hearing and so on. Anyway mine is not going that way so all is looking cool for now.

Time for a cold one

How much money does [Mod Edit] your wife [you are pre-judging the other party's status without knowing both sides of the story] look like milking you for. Im only asking as you mentioned the sort of money you thought she was after.
