ATM fees increased to 180 baht?
Re: ATM fees increased to 180 baht?
I test my US ATM cards before traveling out of Thailand. Fee at K-Bank yesterday was 150 b.
Re: ATM fees increased to 180 baht?
I did rob that ATM yesterday and was only charged 150 for the transaction.

When i drew money from AEON ATMs I had the impression that the exchange rate was not so good as with other ATMs I used some days before. This might be more than 150 Baht worse if you take 20 000 Baht.

The rate depends on whose card you are using not the machine!pitsch wrote:When i drew money from AEON ATMs I had the impression that the exchange rate was not so good as with other ATMs I used some days before. This might be more than 150 Baht worse if you take 20 000 Baht.

I agree. It's the bank you are drawing on that sets the rate. Not the ATM regardless who the machine belongs to.

Re: ATM fees increased to 180 baht?
Yesterday found a 20 Baht charge on my Bangkok Bank account for using ATM of another bank, in Thailand.
Never seen this before, it has always been free. Maybe the policy has changed?

Likewise for the 9 years I have been here.

These are chargeable scenarios to the best of my knowledge:chaspul wrote:Yesterday found a 20 Baht charge on my Bangkok Bank account for using ATM of another bank, in Thailand.

Checking balance from another bank's ATM (usually 10bt)
Withdrawal from another bank's ATM (20bt?)
Withdrawal from your own bank in a different province to where your account is held (... bt)
Withdrawal from another bank in a different province to where your account is held (... bt)
I *think* there are some exceptions, like 3 times a year you can ..... free of charge?
If anybody could help fill in the blanks in this post that would be great!
Re: ATM fees increased to 180 baht?
All I can say is banks here (and maybe everywhere) are total rip off artists. I just got charged thousands of baht for the privilege of depositing millions of baht into Bangkok Bank. One would think they would welcome a large deposit instead of charging thousands of baht. It was in the form of a bank draft from another bank which in western countries is the same as cash and any charge is minimal. Banks here suck big time. They charge to deposit, withdraw, to get an atm card, to transfer money. I'm surprised they don't have a person at the door charging to enter the bank!

Re: ATM fees increased to 180 baht?
Since I first spotted this thread I have used various ATM's, Kasikorn, Krungsri, Krung Thai for sure and some others. In all cases I was only charged 150 baht. Money originated from the same UK Natwest account. Never encountered the 180 baht charge mentioned. Once I am fully organised I will just use one transfer a month from the UK (22 pounds plus charges at this end) and transfer here internally via the internet. Bit of a pain setting up the inter account transfers and particularly inter bank transfers compared to online banking in the UK but at least the sites are in English. Haven't yet seen Thai language as an option on the UK sites so can't complain.

Don't be paying 22 pounds transfer fees! Services like CaxtonFX and the Post Office will do transfers free of charge.Gregjam wrote:Once I am fully organised I will just use one transfer a month from the UK (22 pounds plus charges at this end) and transfer here internally via the internet.
