Was menaced by monkeys at monkey mountain a couple of weeks back. Hardly any tourists around so maybe these guys were hungry. But there was a large troop of them and they were all fighting which was a bit scary. They were very interested in our bags, so we left sharpish? If tourists are feeding them this will make the problem worse.

They were almost certainly hungry which leads to the issues but the basic problems are :-

They have become used to human contact and are no longer afraid

They are used to being fed by humans so every human is a source of food.

They naturally form family groups who work together to gather food

They are very protective of their young and see both the human opportunity and the human threat which encourages aggression when times are difficult, food is in short supply.

You made the right decision, a hasty retreat. Anything else probably would have intensified the interest in your group.

They cannot taste that good!..or the Thais would have 'em on the spit!
These things are becoming vermin all around here!
I tell everyone to stay away from monkey mountain now..& the palace at Petchaburi.
Now Hin Lek Fai view-point is being taken over by them..& Thai women feed buckets & buckets of coconut flesh & bananas to them up there every night FFS!
Never mind Soi dogs everywhere breeding non-stop, these damn things will invade HH soon.. :guns:
(My house is in an area full of them now, & I see the daily-mess they make..yet the Thais accept this..to be re-incarnated they 1st must die.....)
