Visiting Bangkokians - Don't We Love Them

Post by Big Boy »

It took me over 30 minutes this morning to drive from the Railway Station to Soi 88 Railway Crossing. Why? Because the Bangkokian visitors have to get their chicken fix. :cuss:

It is bad there every weekend, with illegal parking so that they don't have more than 6" to walk to buy their chicken. Today was the worst I've seen it. Why don't the BIB do something about it? There must be a stack of money to be made from this illegal act.

We see the BIB stopping people for every other petty road crime, why not this one? As a one off, it could be excusable, but this happens all day, 2 days a week; and 3 days a week when there is a Bank Holiday.

That 'Chicken restaurant' (& it's customers) clog the whole damn Soi up every weekend! But remember the diners are BKK Hi-So's, & lardy-daa Thai-Chinese..so any law laid down in this country does not apply to them..or so it would appear time and time again.. :guns:
Many times an elderly Thai-Chinese woman will be dropped off right outside, then her minibus c/w driver waits there causing mayhem for about an hour FFS!
(& of course they park RIGHT in front of the neighbouring restaurant's entrance...but they have a member of staff that marches out & delivers choice words to the drivers.. :thumb: )
Where are the MIB?? Nowhere to be seen cos they are of lower status than BKK Hi-So's.. :banghead:

Definitely a bottleneck. There simply isn't the parking available. Food is apparently very good.

Can't get enough of them myself. Weekends are good for business.

It's ok for you lot - I have to put up with their driving all week.

I have to navigate amongst them on Sunday evening when I'm going up to BKK, drive with them all week, suffer them again on the way down on Friday evening and then avoid them like the plague here at the weekend

Me too….These people living in Hua Hin don’t have a clue about the dangers we face daily in BKK :D :D

These are important, well connected, wealthy people from Bangkok.
Do you really believe that the Bangkok elite should care about you being inconvenienced.
How dare you sit in your cars with your heads higher than theirs.

I always thought one of those dark-windowed luxury minibuses things would be a great thing to have in Thailand, it seems that you don't have to park them at all, you can just stop anywhere you want and put on the hazard warning lights.

How would we know how good our driving is if we did not have the Bangkokians to show us how not to do it (or just make us jealous about how they can get away with bad parking). All part of the joy of living in Hua Hin. I am sure that there would be something else to complain about if they stopped access to Hua Hin to anyone who does not live within 10km of the railway station.

Seriously, Londoners, Parisienne and New Yorkers all have a very condescending attitudes towards the provinces and the poor devils who have to live their. But the Bangkok people trump them all. It is not a cruel contempt, just a natural assumption that
the city and its people are the chosen ones. The neglect of the infrastructure and economies of the north and the south is due to pure their indifference and disinterest.

I understand your anger BB but we all know, that the Thais totally ignore all the rules of the road, whether in the city, or out in the sticks, but then, don't quite a few farangs?

We were on our way to Cha Am beach one day and going along the road from the main highway to the beach, was a yellow Ferrari parked at 45 degrees across the road, with both doors wide open and 3 blacked out Range Rovers parked along the centre meridian line, completely blocking the road.
All traffic was at a complete standstill.

It turned out to be Taksins daughter, doing a bit of shopping. :cuss:

We had problems with rich Thais wanting to enter our home compound, with their chauffeur driven Mercs, they would have a go at the security guard on our gate, even send in their driver to complain. I and my wife used to go out and tell them in no uncertain terms that "if your car comes in, then you stay outside, if you want to come in, then your car stays outside" Word soon got round after we made it plain, that the car spaces and the drive were for our family cars and no others.
Maybe, they were surprised that we were not going to be brow beaten like many Thais are by Hi So's and after a couple of weeks we had no more trouble.

The problem with any city like HH, is that the more popular it becomes, the more traffic it generates.
This in turn, brings in the big name shops, increases house and land prices and generates higher incomes for many local businesses, many of which are owned by us farangs.

The amount of traffic in Hua Hin and the Hi So's indifference to the rules, used to upset me, but after a while I realised I was retired, in no particular hurry to get anywhere and just learned to live with it.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

I think you're missing the point Don. If you and yours could stand up to them, then why can't the BIB? The BIB should carry a lot more clout than your security guard.
