I agree BB but the rank and file BIB, very rarely, if ever, challenge a rich Hi So, unless they want to find themselves riding backwards on the back of a motor bike in the Southern provinces. They will, however, challenge a farang or a poor Thai, as there is money to be made from them.

The higher ranks (most of them) are less inclined to get involved, as they see themselves as equals to the Hi So's and when in or out of uniform, act just as badly. :guns:

I know that from personal experience, as FIL, was, until recently, one of them. He would think nothing of parking 3 deep, driving at double the speed limits, undertaking on the motorways and generally breaking all the rules of the road.

I don't think this attitude is limited to the rich alone, you only have to sit on any roadside and see that almost all Thais ignore the rules. TIT.

Do not normaly venture down town at weekends, but had to a couple of weeks back. There was one lone BIB on foot getting writers cramp, every car/van on the wrong side had a ticket!
Problem is the "wrong side" alternates daily and is not clearly marked along the length of the road.
Maybe the Bangkokians would learn and the problem decrease if they made the ticket writing a standard duty for weekends.

OK, lets put it another way, why was your security guard the only person in Hua Hin these Bangkokian Demi Gods would listen to? Why wasn't he taken out?

Did he wear red underwear, and have a big S in his chest?

Maybe the BIB could employ him as an advisor.

How dare you sit in your cars with your heads higher than theirs.
And what cop is going to hassle "important, well-connected...."?
The cops are mainly country bumpkins who bought their jobs. That job can disappear pretty quickly if they harass the wrong important dude.

If Don's 2 bit security guard could do it with all the powers that his job gave him, and not face any reprisals; then why can't the BIB? Are Hua Hin's finest really running so scared that they're afraid to issue a parking ticket? It's beyond belief.

I have enjoyed reading this thread. Confirms my reasons for leaving a rapidly developing Hua Hin for the relaxed pleasures of driving on roads little traveled in the south.

I think most of us agree with the principle BB, but you've been here long enough to realise that this isn't the way that the BIB operate - they like an easy life with "rich" pickings from mischievous farangs and "poor" Thais. Unless and until they get a directive from above to tackle this problem (don't hold your breath), I don't see any change to the current practice of turning a blind eye to the Hi So's.

Talking of BIB and having guts. Surely you have noticed that in Thai it is only the women that have any drive, energy, ambition and work ethic. The police force is 90+ male, say no more.

I disagree with you on that. Sure there are some lazy people here in Thailand but it goes for both sexes and there are lazy people in most countries. I have 3 brother in laws here that work there butts off for there families. I know many other guys and girls here that also put in an honest days work.

BB this is what I wrote

We had problems with rich Thais wanting to enter our home compound, with their chauffeur driven Mercs, they would have a go at the security guard on our gate, even send in their driver to complain. I and my wife used to go out and tell them in no uncertain terms that "if your car comes in, then you stay outside, if you want to come in, then your car stays outside" Word soon got round after we made it plain, that the car spaces and the drive were for our family cars and no others.

Don't know where you got the idea that our security guard had super powers! He didn't manage to control them, as I stated in my post, we did, as I posted above!

Don,

The way it reads to me is that Super Security Guard  held the chauffer driven Mercs at bay, causing them to send the driver in to complain to you. It was that man who intervened to prevent your problems, you only supported his actions.

BB Actually, it was the bloody great gates, that kept the cars out. :guns: But read it as you will.

You are not going to make old bones, if you let the lack of action by the BIB and the arrogant actions of some HI So's, get to you in your retirement.

With Hua Hin becoming ever more popular with the BK set and corruption within the BIB on the up, it is only going to get worse for commuters in the city and there is not a damn thing you, I or any farang can do about.
