Proposed High Speed Train Route, Hua Hin?

Hi All,

Been reading about the new high speed train track plans, and have seen that there is now a plan to have a route from Pattaya to Hua Hin via BKK, and possibly on to Rayong.

Does anyone have any extra comments on this?,,Will it be a brand new route or replace the existing track and route through Hua Hin?. Looks good on the planning graphics etc, time will tell,,,,, probably a long time. GN

I'm in China where there are high speed trains travelling up to 300km/hour.

They're all on stilts and convey thousands of people over huge distances.

Bangkok to Pattaya why.

Sadly one of our two enterprises will be affected by the 'new high speed link'..We've just received another glossy brochure from the SRT..yes it's all in Thai, but the jist was to highlight the fantastic benefits of the new line..& went on to show us that in years to come there will be 4 different route-options from BKK to HH..One of the four being the fast option..but it was all marketing-bulls*** aimed really at potential investors.
At this present time..when we got this brochure..has the SRT actually got sufficient funding yet?? Was the figure that Yingluk needed to loan about 60+ Billion Baht..??

If they build it they will need entirely new roadbed and tracks, you can't run 1st world HSR technology on 3rd world infrastructure. Maximum speed using the current setup can't be more than about 80kph and that's a long way from HSR. New infrastructure means new design that would eliminate large numbers of level crossings and routing through small stations. HSR to be effective should have stops at large centres only otherwise its a big expense for a spiffy milk-run train.

BKK<>Pattaya makes no sense to me. Too expensive to build what is little more than a spur line. Basically Thailand ends after Trat on that side and HSR makes sense for longer distance travel 500km +. BKK<>HuaHin Chumpon Surat Thani Nakhon si Thammarat HatYai and eventually to Singapore going south. Going north to CM or Chiang Rai Laos and into China make sense.

Only a thought but how long did it take to plan and build Suvarnabhumi Airport? nanyang is correct, for any of us middle aged folks here in HH we should see this high speed train roll into town around the time we're pushing up daisies. If your lucky.

Airport took about 5 years bt built by Thais. If the Chinese do the HSR it will take less time as they know how to work. It will be a turnkey job like the MRT and Skytrain, was all bought from Siemens, and the Thais basically dug the ditches.
But I'm not holding my breath either.

From time of planning to completion of Suvarnabhumi Airport the time span was closer to 25 years.
