Re: Khorat
To go to Khorat use the Eastern ring rd. (9)The same way that goes to Swampy airport, the road sign that reads: Bang Na. Note that it is still a toll road.bsdk1960 wrote:hi .

Re: Khorat
You have my sympathy. I drive to Aranyapathet quite often and I have found a few times that my GPS lies to me. Or our monkey has tampered with it.bsdk1960 wrote:seems we never end up the way we planned.
Drive safely!

Re: Khorat
Follow the signs to Chang Wattana.......only problem will be when you hit the end of the expressway, it gets a little confusing. If you're going up past Sing Buri just stay left. If you want to go on the old Asia Highway go right.
Re: Khorat
Sorry, i have to disagree. As posted on another thread recently you do not need to go anywhere near Chaeng Wattana and its traffic infested "expressway", or the elevated Don Muang Tollway. If going anywhere to the North East from Hua Hin use the eastern outer ring road (9), from the Bang Khae / Phrapradaeng interchange. Most of it is 120 Km / hr, and although there are several tolls, there is very little difference in cost and a lot less stress! At the northern end of 9 it is a simple loop on to hwy 1 and towards Saraburi / Khorat.T.I.G.R. wrote:Follow the signs to Chang Wattana.......only problem will be when you hit the end of the expressway, it gets a little confusing. Re: Routes to Khorat
Incidentally, If you're going to Khorat city, try not to get there during the morning or afternoon rush hour as it get's pretty congested. In fact if you need to do anything there, park at the large Tesco Lotus on the way into the city and then get a Tuk-tuk to wherever you want to go and save yourself a lot of hassle, they're cheap and they know all the small lanes that you would never think of driving down.
My step-son goes to a boarding school opposite the railway station and I've learnt the hard way the futility of trying to drive there when it's busy.

Re: Routes to Khorat
Home again.
on the way up we took the eastern road and back the western road ,and have to say the eastern road
is much better. Not so many trucks and busses.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Re: Routes to Khorat
yes khorat city is awfull in rush hour ,have been there a couple of times an its not funny at all.

Re: Routes to Khorat
Might seem a silly question, but what are the 'rush hours' in Korat?
Talk is cheap
Re: Routes to Khorat
I don't know about the mornings but I was up there a few weeks ago on a Friday and it was solid from about four oclock in the afternoon. As I mentioned above, tuk-tuks are a good idea as they use all those small lanes in the centre of the city that you wouldn't really want to drive down unless you were really familiar with the place.caller wrote:Might seem a silly question, but what are the 'rush hours' in Korat?
Re: Routes to Khorat
about the same as every where in the cities when school starts and finish with busses, motorbikes and car
come to pick up their children.

come to pick up their children.

Re: Routes to Khorat
I will be there in a few weeks and if I want the car, I will have to act as chauffeur for the other half's journey to work. She starts at 8am. That's from the east of the city (Hua Talay) to the Mall.

Re: Routes to Khorat
I live in Korat and have made two round trips to Cha Am in the last few months. This is from my home in Korat to the Beach Garden Hotel in Cha Am.
Yesterday I drove home using the Eastern Ring Road. The trip was about 460K and took just under six hours including stops for coffee, lunch and the restroom.
On the way down I took the Don Muang Tollway. The trip was 430K and took almost exactly six hours.
The Western Ring Road is about 430K and also takes about six hours. (I usually drive right around 100 unless the speed limit is higher.)
All of these trips were taken during non-rush hour. Mid-day Sunday going south, mid-day Tuesday returning to Korat.
In terms of driving, I much prefer the Eastern Ring Road. It's a better highway.
