Driving standards in wet weather

Post by Terry »

:tosser: :tosser: :tosser: :tosser: :tosser: In the rain.

:cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

Driving down from Bangkok in the pouring rain and there were still a pile of pratts doing 120+ in lousy conditions.

Needless to say they were mainly minibuses, overloaded pickups, pimped up Vios's and City's and the usual sprinkling of Fortuners............

Passed 5 accidents in all
Everyone of them caused by driving to fast and too close in slippery wet conditions - when will they EVER learn

Rant over - have a nice weekend

:thanks:

I was curious at the number of motosi travellers drenched and cold. Why don't they seek shelter from the elements?

At least you got home safely, T. Driving in Thailand when the weather's great is a nightmare, add in a tropical rainstorm and it's hell. Remember a similar journey a few years ago - pickups upside down in the middle bit, and one over a barrier with the cab completely crushed. It was a horrible journey. Mr.VS (like you) would leave enough braking distance between the car ahead, only to have eejits undertaking and filling in the gap. Ignorance of other things I can tolerate, but when it comes to driving a potential killing machine it's unacceptable. :cuss:

Yes Terry..as V.S. says..you got home safe n sound (without any of those t****rs running into YOU).
Rain or no rain it would appear that on a Friday that strip of road is a playground for Bangkonians heading South for the weekend..When I drove down on a Friday afternoon about a month ago I simply felt my truck was in the way of their high-speed, high-risk, escape from the big-city.
I do feel sorry for those poor souls in the minivans tho', Ho-hum eh?

Hi Terry
I hope you enjoy you're weekend.
I agree half an hour of rain and it's like demolition darby i have even seen a single decker bus balanced over a parapet wall on a flyover i could not believe my eye's it was like something from a movie still with the occupants on board.

I never travel in minivans unless i rent the whole van ! and the wife always tells them to drive at a speed my husband is happy with, and steady and you will get a very nice tip drive like a fool and you will only cover you're costs that's it.

I have also done the smart bus not quite a V.I.P from Hua Hin to Prasat Surin province on Usual Suspects recommendation and that was stress free, would use again just kicked back with a couple of beers why my wife and baby and everyone else for that matter fell asleep before we got past the mountains north of Cha Am.

Kendo.

Like Kendo I too drive regularly to Prasart and cannot believe the nutters on the road oblivious to conditions, especially the cheaper buses wow are they crazy!!. :cuss: At least it is getting a little better now that a big part of the road is dual carriageway...room to get away from the crazies!!, but as we all know it is education, or lack of it and unfortunately it will never change, not in my lifetime anyway!!

A bit of topic but use the search facility for the fishing lodge, my personal best fish went from UK 2kg Sea Bass to 13kg Simese Carp on my first trip to the lodge I will go back there a couple of times on my trips to Hua Hin.

If he can't, he will know who to blame  . If he can, he probably won't need to.

You don't need hazard lights to drive fast in the rain if you have all the right protection:

Terry have you tried the coastal road from Samut Sakhon to Chaam? I just did it on the bike, great scenic road with hardly any traffic.
Might take a bit longer in a car but less stressful.
Cheers,
GN.
