As already stated you just need to provide a drawing or photo and any metal-working shop will be able to do the job and supply the type of lock you prefer.
Seems as if you're looking for 'diamond-mesh' grilles as described in this link :

Hmmm. They do give me some hope. I think I'll e-mail them to see if they have close up photos of the screen part, or can describe it so that I can visualize it.

The diamond mesh is close to what I want. The mesh they use on the (actually inexpensive) security doors I've seen in the US are about 5x that thick. They are not woven nor welded, I guess they are punched out of a sheet of steel, (with openings small enough to function as a fly screen) which is why I think it might be a problem getting Somchai at the local door shop to duplicate it. I'm trying to think of alternates that he *would* be able to do that I would find acceptable, though.

I was looking at Lowe's (a US home improvement DIY store) web site and a door like I want is US$80 (~THB2500) at regular price, and I know they go on sale for about $65 (~THB2000).

Thanks!

I doubt if you will get diamond mesh with such small holes to stop mosquitoes etc.from entering, even if they were to use a double layer slightly offset it still won't come close to the fine nylon mesh needed for mosquito screens.
It would also block out most light from entering as nylon mesh already does that to some extent.

Yes the nylon mesh blocks a lot of light. Somchai shops will have steel mesh, maybe a matter of going around and looking. Someone will have it or can get it. But as chopsticks said the steel will not keep bugs out.

The steel mesh on the doors I've seen (and had on my house) in the US is fine enough to keep mosquitoes out. Ants, no, but mozzies yes. But, again the caveat that I'm not in farangland any more, so not to expect the same item.

Here's a photo of the door on my house in California:

Although the metal of the mesh -- actually I remember now it's not a diamond shape, but that's not the point -- is substantially thicker than the shown in the diamond mesh link above, it still lets about the same amount of light through as a traditional wire/vinyl bug screen.

It looks different to what I thought you were describing - to have such a fine mesh it must be made of wire rather than being stamped / punched ?
Is it flexible and something like that used for car bodywork repairs to hold the filler in place ?

I'm starting to doubt my sanity now, but I recall that the mesh part being a single piece of metal. I remember admiring how strong it was and that it would be impossible to break it apart without actually cutting it.

Surely I'm not the only person who has seen one of these doors? Please feel free to jump in here with a better description! :D

Just came back from SF and saw lots of them. Place I stayed had one, very solid made of stamped steel backed by plexiglass so idiots won't be able to pee through into the porch. Deffo a custom job as it was a 1910 building and likely not standard dimensions and possible out of square after 100 years.

Well, I was rolling right along via e-mail with Majestec Trading as referred by STEVE G above. Rolling right along until they wrote:
"For idea price, 90cm*190cm is about 25,920 for hinged door excluding aluminium box in case it is needed. It is up to job site. However, it is not so much cost. For pattaya, we charge on site service about 5000 baht."
My goodness, those doors are expensive here. I started this journey wanting something like the steel security doors in the US which are, as I wrote above, "US$80 (~THB2500) at regular price, and I know they go on sale for about $65 (~THB2000)." Over fifteen times the price?

Back to the drawing board.

FYI, I had asked what the mesh/screen was like on their doors:
One of our product benefit is insect protection. Mesh seems to be a big hole because wire diameter is bigger than normal screen. However, it is close to normal screen hole. 1 square inch composes of 10 wire line. So 1 hole size is about 1.5-1.7 mm.

Do you think it would be within the abilities of a steel door welding Somchai to make a door with a screen like that which wouldn't be removable from the outside of the door?

Hello, I would also like a full house (windows and doors).
So far the only supplier I have found is in KL.
I have asked them if they are prepared to site visit, make and supply.
I am living south of you.
If you find a local supplier please let me know
Regards
