Meeting on 31st May at Majestic Beach Hotel, 1200 hrs
I too hope to attend, whatever the outcome we should show an interest. A decent turnout might affect the authorities attitude towards the farang. We are a part of the community here so it would be great if we were accepted as such. I am sorry to see that the same two people, who happen to both be friends of mine are still negative in their attitude towards the authorities.

Hi Clive
I would go if possable but its not.
Pattaya has the right idea though, they have a cross section of people who do attend meetings and also raise money for local charities.
There was in fact a local chap who was trying to set up the same sort of thing recently but i dont think many attended.
If I am negative (read my last post) the only thing I feel of concern is that it is the same Govenor of prachup who recently called for more controls on farang business who will attend this meeting.
Mike.

Lomu, if you go there or call them, add me in. I'm having a bad hair day today and cannot go too far, cheers.

meeting
I agree with you Mike about the governer, I just think that if not many people attend he can then say that he tried to talk to us but that nobody was interested. This may be the reason why the only way I heard about this was through this forum. By the way I have just registered and the invitation was for a meeting to be held on the 31st January!
I am going to go to this meeting. I think it will be good to hear things from the horses mouth (so to speak), rather than hear the chinese whispers type of knowledge from the bars.
I intend to start some business's soon and I'm sure I will learn something.
I am interested to know how I can apply for a work permit for my various business's - bar / restaurant / guest house / massage / motor bike hire / travel agent, and can I have a work permit and a retirement permit at the same time?
There are some business's Ferang's are supposedly not allowed to own, i.e. farming, taxi service (unless via travel tour), car sales (I think) etc. I would like to know how to obtain this diffinitive list of what business's are allowed and what are not.
And a questions I would like to ask but won't for obvious reasons, - How can I avoid paying the police protection money when I start my business?
I'll take notes and pass on any info on this site unless there is an official rep from HHAD going?

I've picked this up today as well, BG. The schedule of 31st Jan is hand corrected to 31st May.
Still, the more the merrier.
At the end of the day, noone can say that they didn't know about "things" if they don't attend.
The power of HHAD. I wouldn't even have known about it unless it was written here.

That meeting on the 31st of may was around the same time that the law changed and all the foreigners were disturbed by change in foreign ownership laws or guidelines.
One of the last messages on this topic said the govenor of this province was attending and was the same guy who wanted more control on foreign companies.
So they know the law would be changing before and we didn't and it was all a big setup.
It wasn't them finally extending a warm welcoming hand like we were thinking at the time rather than them hitting us with a cold greedy slap on the face.

Think you may be reading too much into this "timetogo".timego wrote:That meeting on the 31st of may was around the same time that the law changed and all the foreigners were disturbed by change in foreign ownership laws or guidelines.

1. The law has never changed.
2. Land offices throughout the Kingdom were given instructions to enforce the current laws more rigidly.
3. This affects all of Thailand, (not just Prachuabkirikhan), so I don't think the governor of this province instigated this!
4. Taking the above 3 points into consideration, your summary analysis does not carry any weight.

Just a quick point. If someone writes somethign about law, tax etc and they read an old post, it may be highly irrelevant. I am just wondering if this should be monitored to ensure that old data is removed, not only that but what about the IT space that you are paying for?
Thanks, sorry not meaning to be a pain.

Not really an issue, we're a discussion board not a legal website. Besides in Thailand they seem to change the law every couple of weeks anyway so it would be impossible to keep up.
