We're on our second Toyota Vios. We sold the first and bought the new one only because it seemed to make financial sense under the foolish tax rebate scheme. We drove the first one all over Thailand and all over Laos. It did a stellar job on pretty much any road we threw at it. It was especially wonderful on the drive from Vientiane to Luangprabang.

I wouldn't buy a car just for the free fluffy dice. Whatever benefit you might have got with the Mazda, depreciation will negate it pretty quickly.

I didn't get any benefit - I wasn't buying. I only went into specific details when requested.

Would you buy a car with essential parts missing? A rear parcel shelf is essential for security if carrying things in the boot. A rear windscreen wiper is fairly essential on a hatchback - even more so on some of Thailand's muddy/dusy roads.
