Hello to all; just settled in Hua Hin

Post by clinton114 »

I wanted to say hello to the community; recently arrived in HH for at least 6 months with an eye on possibly staying longer. I'm retired US Navy, but not sure if I'm actually "retired" or not. California native. I don't normally post much in forums like this, but considering I'm a stranger in a strange land, I think it would be good to establish some contacts and friends. I'm always happy to swap old sailor stories if there are any other former swabbies here.

Go Navy !!!! Had a kid on the "Chuckie V"... But look ... Yelling, "I'm an American, retired from the military" will not make you very many friends in Thailand. Not nearly as many, had you said you were a Canadian draft dodger. Sad, but true. Good luck. Talk about the future, not the past.

Welcome to the new member and I hope you enjoy Hua Hin, but please ignore posts like the above. This particular member just seems to want to stir things up, as evidenced on a few threads.

Caller proves my point, perfectly: Any comment you make will be strongly opposed and contradicted by the Anti-American sentiment that seems to thrive in Thailand. And they aren't even aware they are doing it. You have obviously traveled enough to be familiar. It is the worst expat community I have ever experienced. I only pass through, now.

[Mod Edit] promotion of rival sites is not permitted. and read the Bangkok Post.

I realize you are looking for people with a similar background (US NAVY) .. but the hardest part of retirement, is putting it all behind you. (Retired 10 years)... and still traveling. I don't mention any of my
former life, as it causes jealousy and resentment.

Talk about the future, because that's where you will be spending the most of your time.

Thank you, Caller... you performed splendidly: I don't stir things up. I just don't suffer fools greatly.
