How Much Do You Drink?

Post by GLCQuantum »

Now you know my feelings on alcohol. It brings the very worst out of people and completely changes their actions. I have witnessed many early deaths fom alcohol abuse over the past ten years in Thailand.

Right now, I have a few bottles over the weekends, but nothing too drastic. When I see a drunk person I avoid them like the plague. No-one (other than another drunk person) wants to be anywhere near them. They smell, are loud, are overly confident to the point of delusion and, lets face it, a danger unto themselves and others.

Don't get me wrong, I used to drink like a fish back in my early twenties but... I grew up. 8)

So, how about your good selves? Which catagory do you fall into?

Yep. I drink much much more than I should. A 2 litre carton of milk, if bought in the morning, is gone by lunchtime. I'm trying to cut down by buying the smaller bottles but that only means more trips to the 7-11. I'm getting a taste for the strawberry milk now. About 1 litre a day (often stolen from my kids). I know it's not good and is more fattening than 'beer/alcohol' but I'm hooked!!

Not sure where to put my vote as you haven't catered for the likes of me.

Just enjoy 'drinking like a fish' as everyone knows - a fish doesn't drink!!

Depends really. If out with a crowd it is easy to drink more than you should, same with a family celebration,

I drink every day, usually a couple of glasses of wine or beer with lunch and dinner and usually at home.

This is my beer glass:

It depends where I am, I drink quite heavily when I'm in Thailand as I don't have any work there but when I'm away working I drink far less as it's not really acceptable in my employment to be muddle headed in the mornings and actually we can be tested for alcohol or any type of drug usage.

These days my body definitely reacts as if I've been poisoned. Even with the 'Mediterranean diet', which includes red wine which supposedly can add years to your life. Next day I feel like I've been mugged.

I used to drink too much, but since losing 80% of my stomach last year I have very little capacity. I don't really need it, so I just don't bother. Even on special occassions, I often find that a single glass is too much for me.

Just re-reading my op and the sentence...

"It brings the very worst out of people and completely changes their actions."

...should have really been...

"It brings the very worst out of some people and completely changes their actions."

I have some friends who can happily sink 5 or 6 big bottles of Chang, yet remain a pleasure to chat with. On the other hand, I once knew this Canadian chap who was a great guy until he was halfway through his second Leo. At that point he would turn into the most foul mouthed, crude person I have ever met. Everyone at the table knew his limits and would make their plans to leave accordingly.

Myself... well I generally just talk far too much, not allowing others to join in. On the odd occasion, I can become extremely argumentative over something as trivial as *insert trivial thing here*. This is why I stopped drinking beyond my limit.

When I used to venture into town though, you would always see the worst of the worst on most occasions. Johnnie Walkers is the only place I really go to now when I am down in Hua Hin as Johnnie is always a pleasure to chat to and the place is generally free of the 'Great Unwashed'.

So, it's just understanding your limits and being able to gauge the reactions of others around to see if you are a welcome contribution or... it's time to go home.

Nothing wrong with a few beers... as long as it doesn't change you that much which it certainly does to many.

I drink more than I should, but rarely more than I can handle.

Don't drink wine as I made a decision very early on in my life that friends were more important than drinking wine, and the two were looking ever more mutually exclusive. Didn't really like it all that much, so it wasn't too difficult a step to take - though it did leave me as somewhat the odd-one-out in my family.

Generally drink Leo or Singha. Chang is easier on the wallet, but that extra 1.5% really makes the difference after a few bottles/glasses. I can drink a reasonable amount of beer and still be functional the following day. Once I hit the ("just one") Sangsom I have to pretty much write off the next day. Depending on quantity, even the day after that can be a bit of a struggle).

As my brother once put it, "A cold beer on a warm sunny day is one of the simplest pleasures". Lot of warm, sunny days in Thailand.

I'll have a few drinks on the weekend. Only drink during the week if we go to a nice restaurant and then only a glass, or two, of wine.

Can't remember the last time I was drunk, the morning after is no fun anymore

What can I say......I like my beer.

Saying that, I very rarely go too far but that's mostly because it makes me sleepy. If I have spirits on the other hand, I can keep going all night so I save that for special occasions only, perhaps once every couple of years. Wine I'll drink if it's offered to me, but not a big wine lover. Maybe because I come from a country where it's in abundance?

I do enjoy some brandy sometimes, but not the French stuff. :duck: Good whiskey is also very nice, but I can't afford flying back to Scotland every time I want a good "peaty" malt, and Hong Thong just isn't the same.

For the time being, I'll stick to nice cold Chang. :thumb:

As far as behavioral changes are concerned..........I've actually never managed to puzzle out how/why some people get aggressive when they drink. I go from sober to talkative to a bit daft, and then to sleep.
